He literally has NO incentive to "do Trump a solid," as in "step aside to make room for Aileen Cannon."

And as corrupt as the SCOTUS is, I think they ALL have the ability to see Cannon as an unqualified toady. Habba would be worse than Cannon. Pirro would be worse than Cannon and Habba put together because the justices would end up spending most of their time trying to keep her off the sauce.

Especially with the line up you mentioned, I'd rather keep Alito. His choices are Dumd Dummer and a Box of Wine!

He wasn't likely to stand down before 2029 anyway. He'll take it to then with the expectation Democrats will overplay their hand after winning the midterms and give Republicans a 50/50 shot at winning the presidency or Senate (or both) in '28.

And why would they give up the perks of the job, even the ones they shouldn't be getting, like vacations and motor homes that wealthy people offer them out of the goodness of their hearts and not to buy influence in pending cases? They also must know that their replacements are likely to be even more marginally-qualified Trump stooges than the three previous appointments, and who would want to be replaced by Aileen Cannon? That would hurt.
