These two editorials by the Washington Post expose how the Republican Party and Democratic Party are held to completely different standards by the media.
Texas gerrymander: Not a threat to democracy.
Virginia gerrymander: Power grab by Democrats.

"Why don't you just wear shoes that fit you, then?" asks the friend.
He replies, "because it feels so good when I take them off."

(4,167 posts)If they did, they'd be trying to explain why this is different.
Do they really think it's only ok for them to do it, or do they not even connect the two?
Narcissists only see things from their point of view. I think the whole Republican Party have become narcissists.

(3,931 posts)And most of the other redistricting attempts in Blue states were put to the people to decide i.e. Cali yet repuke redistricting in Red states so far have nearly all cut the people out of the decision (they tried it 3 times, different ways, in my state without the peoples consent and failed fortunately). How is it that CITIZENS VOTING FOR A CHANGE is a threat to Democracy but having voting districts CRAMMED DOWN THEIR THROATS is not?
I'm with Elias, FUCK THEM and BEZOS!!

(5,620 posts)The whole gerrymandering mess has been a stain on our democracy for a few decades, but trump really lit the mess on fire when he openly called on red states to do it in a non-census year, to protect Republican majority n Congress.

(14,514 posts)Three months ago, I decided that I was done with Mr. Bezos and I havent made another purchase. And to my great surprise, I havent had a moment of withdrawal. In fact, its been great fun to go back to some of my old stores and actually do real shopping. Try it, youll like it.

(17,729 posts)Since I'm not much of a shopper anyway, it won't make a dent but it makes me feel better and I don't miss it at all. I can't see giving one penny to a company with a greedy prick like him running it.

(14,514 posts)It seems that suddenly there is a renewed interest in actual store shopping, especially by the younger generation. It appears that the lazy way to shop takes away a lot of the pleasure of the hunt as well as the instant gratification of going home with that perfect find. Our ancestors were hunters and we still have that in our DNA. Added to that, many seek the socialization that their parents found in malls and markets.

(14,514 posts)and in my travels this summer (my daughter teaches at universities around the country and I go with her and explore cities Ive never been to), Ive wandered through many malls that have lost 75% of business and are scheduled to close. But oddly, they are filled with youngsters, teenagers and young adults, socializing, and shopping in the remaining stores, and they have kept the food courts very much alive. Upon seeing this, I did some research and found out that this is going on all around the country and that these kids are tired of having all the fun of shopping (and hunting) end with Bezos delivering all their needs at their front doorstep.

(4,767 posts)... to be used as a birdcage liner. And that's only on the condition that your parakeet can't read. It would be unkind to subject a sweet little bird to the witless, partisan drivel vomited forth by the WAPO editorial board. Those malicious clowns don't even try to hide their deceitful double standard anymore.
Apparently, "integrity" is now a dirty word in the WAPO newsroom ever since "Bozo" Bezos bought the paper. When the Graham family ran it, The Washington Post was a bastion of truth in reporting, but not anymore. Now it's even lower than the bird shit a discerning parakeet drops on it. Even Kathryn Graham would defecate on it from on high, were it possible.

(13,447 posts)Is just a propaganda rag. Did trumps media office write that crap? I can't see a real reporter being proud of that shit. Bozo really fell for the "he's better than anyone else bs" hope he enjoys his money because that's all he'll ever have to make him happy.

Virginia actually voted in favor of redistricting to counterbalance what Texas and other Republican-controlled states have done.
Yet only one is considered a "power grab."

(6,079 posts)With say requirements on congressional seat allocation to balance representating the states voter registration balance while also trying to have the districts being reasonably geographically coherant? There have been anti-gerrymandering proposals recently, which nearly all the GOP have opposed? And isn't the Electoral College a type of Gerry mandering?
