(77 posts)Porter dropping out would make it a sure thing.
Don't expect either to take one for the team.

(14,739 posts)and a flip flopper... promised the city that the flying in of the space shuttle (to be housed in a museum) would be a big city party.
Then shortly before the event. "Stay home, stay off the streets". But Los Angelenos ignored him and came out in droves.
I remember so many details about his mayorship.
ex wife said she asked why he stopped wearing his wedding ring "none of your business". His mistress worked for a news organization, so his relationship wasn't really ethical.

(77 posts)Full disclosure, she was my Rep. Loved her 6 plus years ago, But now am just luke warm on her. Appreciate if you could share your concerns. Don't want to bias anyone with mine. And if anyone has a strong defense chime in.
Additional disclosure, I am a bit annoyed that I missed her weaknesses and would love to be proven wrong. I'm usually the guy who picks up the B.S., in 04 when friends were jumping on the John Edwards bandwaggon I took a ton of heat for claiming he was a pretty boy, no depth Douchebag.

(3,014 posts)She still has fundraisers at her home. We've attended many of her events, most recently for Josh Turek, Adam Schiff, Cory Booker, and my favorite, Jamie Raskin. Many more in past years, such as Nancy Pelosi, Mark Kelly, Pete Buttigieg, Jen Psaki.
I forget exactly when, but around four years ago we attended one for Katie Porter. The minimum varies, but usually at least $300 per person, so lets say we contributed around $600 to her. There were around 70 or so attendees.
After her speech she mingled with the crowd and I was able to get a brief one-on-one with her. I forget some of the details but I asked her about the minimum wage, that I agree it should be higher in parts of California, but I was also concerned how this might affect those living in low-populated rural areas where the economy isnt as vibrant. For example, jobs for teens working summer jobs at the local ice cream shop might go away, etc.
Her response to me was essentially that I'm dumb, stupid, ignorant, and how dare I ask a question like that of someone so brilliant. She then turned and walked away to speak with someone else.
The person shouting at her staff member and storming out of an interview with CBS is the same one I met. I've not cared for her since, to say the least.

(77 posts)I just got a bad feel for her during the Senate run. She came off as being entitled to the seat when there was understandably some major competition. Maybe some weakness due to her profession? Teaching college kids law is a lot different than dealing with constituents.

it was my sense that rather than her having a conversation with me about the topic I brought up, she decided to brush it aside in an obviously dismissive manner and move on to someone else. So the end result is that it felt that way. (Dumb, not drunk. But after that experience I did have several glasses of wine!)
senseandsensibility
(25,356 posts)that way. I don't see how she could have made it as far as she did without basic "glad handing" skills, especially with people attending a fundraiser who are likely to contribute to her campaign. Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience.

(15,478 posts)Between the two Republicans at 26%, they've almost maxed out the available Republican votes.
They may pick up a few votes, but I suspect most of the Undecideds will break for the Democrats.
It won't surprise me if we end up with two Democrats in the general election.
karynnj
(61,057 posts)very right wing which should limit any moderates they pick up.

(93,808 posts)I know they are totally different things and not on the same level at all.
But I think some people are just thinking they want someone without any "baggage". And this same thing is helping Becerra who might be seen as "boring" but some people think that's what we need now .

(93,808 posts)How many of them are Republican and how many Democratic ?
pinkstarburst
(2,072 posts)And I think even without the ones at the bottom dropping out, it may be close enough with the undecideds to push two democrats over the top. But I do not understand why the ones polling below 5% especially are staying in. Porter, I suppose, could hope that maybe all the undecideds might break for her, or that someone else on the list will have a Swalwell type scandal, which I'm guessing is what is keeping them all from dropping out.
karynnj
(61,057 posts)saying they will vote for top Democrats, but are undecided, I think this will lead to 2 Democrats. If the election were today, I would guess Steyer and Betcerra.
As long as the Republicans split as they are or closer, even the higher one won't be in the top two. I wish at least one poll would have a follow up question asking if they plan to pick a Democrat or Republican or don't know.

(428 posts)Swalwell dropping out was her chance and she's gained precisely 0 support from it. Her candidacy doesn't look viable. Same for every Democrat not named Steyer or Becerra.
She didn't do well in the Senate election a d has lost support since then. People just dont like her.
She has the debate to do something, but if there isn't a shifting moment tonight then she needs to drop.
obamanut2012
(29,477 posts)And Porter needs to endorse one of the top Dems. I prefer XC, but can live with Steyer over any GOPer. Everyone on the left in CA knows what Mahan is up to.

(61,057 posts)Given he has gotten a lot of tech money some from people also backing Hilton, his path might be could possibly become one of two Democrats. This could only happen if he surges or one or more stumble.
Then in a general election, he could get some of the independent/Democratic vote he got in the primary added to most of the Republican vote. He might be more of a threat than if a Republican was one of the choices.
Oddly, his chances of winning the general if he gets into it might not be worse than his ability to get into the top two.

(5,476 posts)second and third are Democrats, with Steyer essentially tied with maga hilton, which hopefully will change dramatically when the 26% undecideds finally decide. The best would be if those undecideds went to either Steyer or Bercerra, which would essentially remove magas from the race.

(27,447 posts)How did that work out for the US ? HIlton is another rich out of touch with working people and no government experience it would be so STUPID to elect him and make California another 🍊🐖💩 land.
WAY the F up California if you vote for Hilton or Bianca!
Hilton and Bianca will sell out California to the 🍊🐖💩 should be run in ALL ads during the primaries.
