https://www.defiance.news/p/rachel-maddow-is-helping-stop-trumpsThe MSNOW anchor partly inspired a new effort GTFOice.org that's now going mainstream around the country.

Last night, Rachel Maddow devoted the majority of her show to the growing national movement to block Trumps prison camps from taking root in American communities. She also did something she almost never does.
She put two guests on at once.

So when she opened her segment last night by telling viewers, Im about to break one of the informal rules that we have on this show, I knew folks would be intrigued. Hell, I was intrigued. And I was sitting there in the chair waiting to come onto the show!
It turns out Rachel wanted to know why a conservative ex-Trump official and a progressive data scientist would be teaming up. So she brought us on at the same time. Rachel welcomed me and Project Salt Box co-founder Michael Wriston to talk about the new effort we launched: GTFOice.org Get the Facilities Out, ICE! a new nationwide rapid-response network to block Trumps prison camps. This is a team effort Michaels org, DEFIANCE.org, and The Save America Movement (SAM).
Michael and I told her why we decided to collaborate. This topic far transcends partisan lines. No American regardless of ideological stripes should be okay with DHS developing enough detention capacity to imprison the entirety of Salt Lake City or Knoxville. Ive spent almost two decades helping to build DHS. So believe me when I say that kind of sprawling prison system is vastly more capacity than DHS needs for immigration, and it has ominous overtones of a police state.
Little did Rachel Maddow know, SHE helped inspire this effort.

Edited to add Rachel's show from last night. The first part of the show is footage of alll the protests that have been going on. So far they have managed to stop alll of the prison camps. She talks about how far behind national media is on this and how it's independent and local media that is stepping up.

(32,566 posts)especially when we help them out. Yes, words matter. Also, they are not prisons, prisoners have rights, they are concentration camps.
the only resistance the Republicans will listen to is Violent Demonstrations..............
Which they are trying to provoke, in order to enact the Insurrection Act and dismiss the Posse Comatatus Act.......opening the way for them to install Martial Law throughout the U.S. using the U.S. Military.........The Republicans are already using the U.S. Military, including the National Guard, and Border Patrol, the FBI, ATF, and even the Secret Service to inch their way forward.....
They are frightened, after seeing what Trump's incitement could cause with their attack on the U.S. Capitol with 5,000 MAGAots.
And realizing what a massive group of Demonstrators against Trump and the Republican Politicans could cause in DC.
People don't fully realize that Repubs HAVE ALREADY ASSEMBLED a massive military force, walking the streets of DC in case anyone tries to revolt........

(26,185 posts)A core principle behind all May Day events is a commitment to nonviolent action.
We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. No weapons are permitted under any circumstances.
thanks for your reminder,.... usonian.
BTW.......The Denver City Council just this past week, finally finished the Millions and Millions of Dollars of payouts, for the Denver Police Brutality, at the BLM peaceful demonstration, that was years ago in Denver.........You would think the City of Denver would come down hard on their Police Department?????????????? Not so much.........but, I will say the Colorado State Patrolmen that were there to help with the crowd, rushed in to get between the DPD and demonstrators to protect the peaceful demonstrators from what the DPD was maliciously doing to the demonstrators.......Good On You CSP...........
