I hope this one further limits the field. Some Dems need to drop out. In fact, they should have after the last debate.
My hope is that after this debate Becerra will lead, but Steyer's money is hard to compete with. Why can't more of the candidates under ten percent do what Betty Yee did, and drop out for the good of the party?

(4,484 posts)Jane Fonda, through The Jane Fonda Climate PAC, has endorsed Tom Steyer for Governor of California, calling him a "clear climate champion" in the race. In an April 2026 Instagram post, she praised Steyer's history of fighting the fossil fuel industry and his dedication to tackling the climate and democracy crises in California.

I had thought there were three total , so tonight and next week are remaining.

Seems like it should have gotten more publicity.

(15,514 posts)Steyer reminds me of Arnold Schwarzenegger. They're pretty much opposite sides of the same coin.
Both had "political epiphanies" that drove them use their wealth to climb to power.
I'm not saying Steyer would be bad for California, just not sure he's not just bought himself a new hobby rather than being serious about governing. I know Becerra's experience and background dealing with California Politics. It's not the same as making a business deal or pitching ideas at a event with the weight of your personal fortune and celebrity behind you.
We'll see how it shakes out. But I'm really nervous because California Democrats can be that cliquish that we could end up with faux Piers Morgan over party egos.
Luckily, CA has a two-term limit for Governer.
