And, lo! The latest fad diet is upon us - and it's called 'eating biblically' -- Arwa Mahdawi

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2026/may/20/latest-fad-diet-eating-biblically

Some Christian conservatives are only eating foods mentioned in the Bible. At least Jesus wasn't devouring ultra-processed sausage rolls ...

t looks like all the raw milk Conservatives have been chugging may have curdled some of their brains. Some very odd wellness ideas, many of them Maga-adjacent, have been popping up in the US lately. Vaccines are evil! Testicle tanning will boost testosterone! According to health secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, seed oils are unknowingly poisoning Americans! Beef tallow will make your skin glow!

The latest unorthodox theory to gain a cult-like following? Biblical eating. This is a somewhat fuzzy concept that tends to focus on eating foods mentioned in the Bible. While the idea isn't new, it has been resurrected. A recent New York Times piece notes that it has had a "resurgence in recent months".

"I had never really thought to look to the Bible for a recipe book," one Christian content creator and biblio diet influencer called Kayla Bundy told the NYT. But then she had a revelation: "Sin entered into the world through food, and Satan doesn't stop there. Food ... is really like a weapon of how I can fight back."

The good news is that you too can fight Satan for the low price of a $28 digital guide sold by Bundy. Or, for those blessed with a bigger bank account, why not sample a superfoods coaching session for around $700 a month? Annalies Xaviera, another influencer profiled by the NYT, also sells a $97 Biblical Eating Reset course.

What's next? Only using pottery and ceramic plates? No toilet paper, but Roman style sponges? Going back to pre-Roman calendars? Death penalty for all kinds of "offenses?" Walking everywhere, or at most riding a donkey? I could go on and on...

It's all getting a bit ridiculous.

Are they going kosher or hallal? Will they forego refrigeration and implement a "no shellfish" rule?

If they'll promote beekeeping, I'll keep my sarcasm to myself.

Typically at the historical end of a concerted social push for a "spiritual awakening".
I remember it was a "thing" in the early 2000's, followed by Paleo and Cross-fit.

But however hard it's pushed, Bacon, Lobster, White Flour and Sugar, alcohol, and Fast Food typically win once the Biblical Diet come into the dietary ring.
Especially Bacon.

I think she believed that nobody would recognize her from the vegan world as she snuck the pieces.

Also, once she became pregnant, all that went out the window.

Matthew 3:4

4 John’s clothes were made of camel’s hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.

And the Mediterranean Diet can have good health benefits for some.

But I wouldn't have to plunk down 28 bucks to a grifter in order to follow it.

Buy raw food. Cook it. eat it.

Of course, shellfish and pork may be right out if you're Jewish or Muslim. Otherwise, grind grain and make bread from it. Eat fruit from trees, and vegetables from the garden. Cook over a wood fire, since that's all they had in Biblical times. Drink beer. It's easy to make. Drink water. Squeeze fruit and drink the juice.

Kill a lamb, a goat, an antelope or a calf. Cook its parts and eat them. Again, over a wood fire. If you can manage to kill birds, eat them, too, after plucking and gutting. Learn to fish. Catch fish, clean the, and cook over that same wood fire. Careful not to overcook the fish.

It's simple to eat a biblical diet. They didn't have many options. You ate what was available and prepared it simply. What's the problem? You can still buy all of that stuff in any grocery store.

Now, go away and start preparing meals.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feeding_the_multitude

In Christianity, feeding the multitude comprises two separate miracles of Jesus, reported in the Gospels, in which Jesus used modest resources to feed thousands of followers who had gathered to see him heal the sick.

The first miracle, the "Feeding of the 5,000", is the only miracle--aside from the resurrection--recorded in all four gospels[1] (Matthew 14:13-21;[2] Mark 6:31-44;[3] Luke 9:12-17;[4] John 6:1-14).[5]

The second miracle, the "Feeding of the 4,000", with seven loaves of bread and a few small fish, is reported in Matthew 15:32-39[6] and Mark 8:1-9[7] but not in Luke or John.

While it mentions a few specific foods, such as figs, olives, olive oil, beans, bread and fish, it's only in a general way. It doesn't say a specific type of fish, or type of bread, or olives...well, you get the idea.
And if they are following a biblical diet, does that mean they are going to follow the laws of kashrut?
