what google said:

Senator Mitt Romney texted Mitch McConnell on January 2, 2021, warning him of disturbing Pentagon intelligence regarding planned protests on January 6. The text alerted McConnell to online threats of extremists planning to "smuggle guns into DC," "storm the Capitol," and "burn down your home," while also expressing concern that the President would withhold necessary reinforcements.

The text was revealed in McKay Coppins's biography, Romney: A Reckoning, and reads as follows:

Romney informed McConnell of a warning from Senator Angus King regarding disturbing intelligence, mentioning threats to storm the Capitol, burn McConnell's home, and bring guns to Washington. He further expressed concerns that the President, whom he referred to as the "instigator," might withhold necessary security reinforcements. The full, detailed text of this message is documented in The New York Times' coverage of the biography.

okay, magnifying glass shows the text from romney:

"in case you have not heard this, i just got a call from angus king, who said he had spoken with a senior official at the pentagon who reports that they are seeing very disturbing social media traffic regarding the protests planned on the 6th. there are calls to burn down your home, mitch, to smuggle guns into d.c., and storm the capitol. i hope that sufficient security plans are in place, but i am concerned that the instigator--the president--is the one who commands the reinforcements the dc and capitol police might require. "

Meanwhile, I don't remember Romney's comments, but there was so much going on at the time, that would be understandable.

And if not immediately doing that, then at least prosecuting him immediately.

I used to defend Biden all the time. Now my rage at the choice of a Federalist Society guy to run the DOJ? My rage at being the statesman when this monster was out creating the foundation for the destruction of all that was once good about our country and amplifying all of the horrors.

It is unforgivable. And it is all seems to come from this preposterous idea that if one models civility, the criminals will follow suit. Guess what, they don’t and look where we are now and where this is going.

The damage is irreperable.

It is best to figure out how to have a confederation of like minded states. There are no “united” states any more.

AND EARNED!!!

But with apologies to Tumbulu (above), you can certainly blame Biden all you want. You’re free to do so. But try as I might, I’ve been unable to find Biden’s name on ANY of those Jan 6 protest signs and banners that vowed allegiance to him or dedication of the events that day to him. Whether hand-helds or yards-longs, it was ALL about trump.

Maybe I just haven’t looked hard enough.

immediate prosecution and punishment of T and all of the criminals.

I did not use to feel this way. I took comfort in coming here and reading posts from knowledgeable fellow DU’s explaining what was taking so long.

Now, that our nation has become the bludgeoning tool of all decency, I can see that those who were calling for a far more expedient reckoning were spot on.

And he didn't steal anything from anybody.

And he was honest. He didn't misrepresent himself. He really did - AND STILL DOES - care about us as fellow Americans. The Donald only cared about however much of YOUR money he could siphon off into HIS accounts.

act soon enough.

We are here.

I loved the 4 years of decency that Biden gave us. I loved him and it was this huge relief. I loved the healing that it brought to my psyche and the nation and the world’s.

But now look at where we are.

The fact is that T is president because his prosecution did not occur soon enough.

It is that simple.

@basil's tweet source original mckay coppins book, title of which would appear in any high school newspaper article but not in the inslider.....

https://www.businessinsider.com/mitt-romney-mitch-mcconnell-january-6-security-concerns-reckoning-book-2023-9

mitt answers a perpetual trumpist accusation: "why did pelosi refuse more national guard?" maybe she recognized mitts concerns...

"I am concerned that the instigator—the President—is the one who commands the reinforcements the DC and Capitol police might require." mitt romney, 2 jan 2026

late note: atlantic reporter mckay coppins wrote "romney the reckoning" which seems a likely source for the quote, and a good reason i may have missed it..

of an imminent attack on the Capitol building, and that the warning came from a high-ranking Pentagon official, is SO disturbing to my mind. This should call for a Congressional investigation. That Pentagon official should be questioned about exactly WHO he talked to about that warning.
ANOTHER list that needs to be released!

was a dozen cops/Secret Service, inside the capital, "dropping" every person who tried to come thru the doors or windows. At some point the insurrectionists bodies would have clogged that point of entry. The remaining insurrectionist outside would have tucked tail and run, like the chicken shits they are........

I was in hopes that they would have come close to Pence, and seen the firepower of the Secret Service guarding Pence......
The Secret Service shoots to kill.......and they are not limited to just their pistols

Ever wonder why the secret service leaves their jackets unbuttoned???????
