Who is the "enemy"?

For decades, communism and authoritarian governments were the enemy of America. We spent trillions of dollars to defend our democracy.

But times have changed. The communists and the authoritarians are now our biggest allies. We kick our allies of the last eighty years to the curb. We threaten to invade them. We vow not to assist them if they are attacked, according to the NATO agreement.

There is a new enemy. The Democratic Party. The "leftists". The "libs". They hate these people more than anything in the world. Destroying the "libs" is more important to them than saving our democracy.

The enemy is you.

Call them what you want, they've had many titles over the last 300 years .... oligarchs, international businessmen or financiers, capitalists, cryptobros, Lords of various stripes and nationalities, titans of industry. They were all loyal to themselves more than their countries. It turns out there were plots to overthrow not just FDR, but Winston Churchill too, the elites negotiating and collaborating where they could. Many used fronts for their interests - LLCs, conglomerates, exploration companies. Which is a long way of saying, democracy was not their thing all along.

And really, for those keeping score, the USA America was an outcast from the very beginning. We rebelled against monarchies. We had to beg for credit - capital - money - after the Revolution and few would lend to us. So this schism between the old elite order - monarchist or capitalist or both - has been simmering a long time, hundreds of years.

We are enemy #1

We’re hateful, so hateful that they have to hate us…

Or something like that.
Because.

the government of the USA is authoritarian.

Yes, we normally regard "the US government" as being the same as "the USA". But Trump's disapproval rating is abyssmal - it reached a negative 30%:

There is a disconnect between the American government and the American people (and, for that matter, American allies, as you say).

Nothing is a bigger threat to the USA than Trump. The second biggest threat is his supporters. After that you get Putin etc.
