Kennedy Center official tells judge that removing Trump's name would make them go broke in new court filing

A Trump-Kennedy Center official warned a federal judge that stripping the president’s name from the renowned arts institution would cause unbearable financial damage, marking the latest twist in a months-long legal battle.

Charles Matthew Floca, the center’s 39-year-old executive director, filed a declaration Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, arguing the institution’s funding is inextricably linked to President Donald Trump.

“President Trump’s fundraising on behalf of the Center is exemplified by the tens of millions of dollars already raised,” Floca wrote. “Further, the President has committed to raise $150 billion on its behalf from private donors over the next two years.”

“Should President Trump’s name be removed from the Center, that vital fundraising connection will be severed, causing irreparable harm and fundamentally destabilizing the Center’s development efforts, severely impairing its trust-fund artistic programming, and rendering the continuation of ongoing trust-funded operations financially nonviable,” he continued.

I bet more people in the WMD would contribute. I know I would. Plus Trump is limiting what kind of performers are allowed there--according to his trashy taste.

Wikipedia has a list of 41 artists that canceled their performances at the Kennedy Center due to Trump’s interference, and that was events already scheduled. It will be even harder to find artists willing to consider booking shows there in the future as long as Trump’s name stays associated with it.

Raising billions of dollars for an institution that has no events makes one wonder where those billions of dollars will actually go.

It’s mendacity - through & through. People need to learn this phrase and deploy it at maximum volume when appropriate: THAT’S A LIE!

have they been spent to the benefit of the Kennedy Center?
"Show [us] the money!"

“Further, the President has committed to raise $150 billion on its behalf from private donors over the next two years.”

Doesn't mean it WILL happen, and there's no guarantee the $$$ won't simply be lining trumpie's pockets because he's *cough* lending his name to the Center.

The Yahoo "news" reports $150 billion but the actual filing says $150 million.

Still ridiculous to be included in a court filing, but that's one heck of a typo.

naming rights are not for sale. The only way to have his name added legally is to get Congress to agree.
Trump had better hurry to get his name on stuff because it'll only be there for a short time. More Americans evrryday would like to forget he existed.

and have always listened to WETA. However, they have taken to calling it the Trump Kennedy Center. I emailed them and told them that Trump does not have the authority to change the name, and why are they going along with it. They wrote back the most horrible corporate bullshit email I've ever seen. I wrote back and told them I will no longer listen to or support WETA as long as they call it the Trump Kennedy Center.

So I started listening to WBJC in Baltimore. Now they have started calling it the Trump Kennedy Center too. Damn.
