Witnessing MAGAts go after CONSERVATIVE Country Music star Martina McBride is stupefying.

I can't post some of the stuff I've seen because it's homophobic and clearly would violate DU's rules about Republican talking points, etc.

And I've not heard ANY of the artists who canceled (or Morris Day, who said he never agreed to perform in the first place) actually SAY "Fuck Trump" or "I am canceling because I don't like Trump."

They're saying it was sold to them as a non-partisan event which is clearly partisan. They just want to keep highly charged partisanism OUT OF their music, and I respect that.

I've followed a NUMBER of "Conservative / Republican" artists for decades, like Sammy Hagar and Alice Cooper. That's because they DO NOT go out on stage and say "Trump ROCKS!"

Even Ace Frehley, who...in the last few years of his life, became VOCALLY pro-Trump, did it in a way that stressed "He's the president, and it's on us to support the president." I only agreed with him on the most basic levels of principle. I think we get a "pass" when the president is a rapist, a convicted felon, an insurrectionist, and a con man.

But Frehley didn't "do a Kid Rock." He was asked about Trump in an interview, he responded, I didn't agree with him at all, and I did not stop listening to his solo music or the music he recorded with Kiss.

But the MAGAts...it really is all or nothing, you're 100% in for Dear Leader or you're a "Woke RINO."

I have never really paid much attention to their politics but they are Canadian. Two minutes of research gives me progressive vibes.

I don't see them fitting in here

Martina McBride’s most famous song - Independence Day - is a feminist anthem, which probably enrages the lizard brains. I mean, Mama “lit up the sky like the 4th of July” is truly scary to anyone who looks the other way on domestic violence, which is pretty much all of MAGA.
I always wondered if Martina McBride were a secret liberal, and maybe MAGATs suspect the same thing. Or, she’s just an artist who realizes that her music appeals to liberals and she doesn’t want to alienate us.
I wasn’t aware that she was suffering backlash now. Maybe she’s the conservative version of the Dixie Chicks.
Thank you for this post!

6. She's being COMPARED TO The Dixie Chicks, simply as the result of canceling her appearance.

I'd say your take on her is accurate.

We have a broad spectrum in our own party, from progressive to conservative.

I'm one of those people who feels that artists are entitled to their beliefs and political leanings without having to "pledge allegiance" to any one extreme.

This clip has French subtitles, but the audio is in English. A reporter tried to get Elvis to speak out on Vietnam. He said that he preferred to keep his views on that to himself.

I've been a Springsteen fan since the second album (didn't like the first one at all, thought it tried too hard to be Bob Dylan word salad).

But I DO applaud his outspoken, principled take on Trump.

So I think artists need to make that decision on their own, and not as the result of public pressure. Be a part of the conversation or stay out of it, and no one should be able to pressure them into something they know is not right for them.

He said that he was an entertainer and didn't feel comfortable sharing. When he was asked if others should follow his example he said no. I have a lot of respect for him for that.

Is a strong supporter of women's rights. I suspect she is like Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood -- she is liberal but doesn't just say it. She also lost a few years of working due o damage to her voice.

So good at obeying aren't they? I ridicule them for not thinking for themselves. Believe any stupid thing you're told MAGA! Is the sky green? Is down up? You'll go along with anything for a stupid, greedy billionaire. Stupids.

A bunch of male artists have dropped out but the hatred is focused on the woman who dared to say no.

8. Yes, and it's the women who have been jettisoned from Trump's cabinet, while Hegseth and Patel remain

Not sure I completely understand Trump's tolerance for the two of them, other than it would "feel like admitting a mistake" or "accepting defeat" if he got rid of either or both of them.

.... control and will instantly respond to djt's each and every whim because he has career and life destroying kompromat over them and would not hesitate to ruin them.

Surrounding himself with damaged and shamefully incompetent individuals boosts djt's self esteem.

He's always got someone on stand-by to throw under the bus.

I don't think either of these guys are held in "higher regard" than Noem, Bondi, or Gabbard.

I just think he's saving them for when he really needs to dodge the blame on a bigly yuge disaster.
