🔥🚨 MAJOR JUST IN: The SAVE America Act Just Failed In The Senate.
The measure, which would have required voter ID and proof of citizenship nationwide, was rejected 48-50.
Republican senators Thom Tillis, Lisa Murkowski, Mitch McConnell, and Susan Collins voted no.

(48,010 posts)But we came that close to having to show up with a freaking proof of citizenship. Which a lot of people do not have. Wow.

(17,708 posts)The state level bills require the state elections bureau to utilize federal government provided lists to purge voter rolls.
Theres an executive order (issued on March 31st IIRC) requiring the post office to ensure that they dont deliver ballots to people that are not properly registered voters, and specifically requires the post office to create an approved voter list (together with social security administration) which can then be used to purge voters in accordance with state lists.

(35,416 posts)flippantly state that everyone just needs to get a photo ID if they want to vote.
I'm not going to name him, but I was shocked. That's definitely not the attitude that we need.
I appreciate your point in this reply. ❤️

I read the Trump-backed so-called Save America Act (SB 1383) because most of the media and most of our lawmakers apparently have not. Its obvious that they havent read it because if they had, they would sound the alarm about Point 1, below.

(5,278 posts)"By rights, [Mitch] McConnell's tombstone should say that he presided over the end of the Senate. And I'd add a second line: 'He broke America.' No man has done more in recent years to undermine the functioning of the US government. He has been the epitome of unprincipled leadership, the triumph of tactics in pursuit of short-term power." -- Dana Milbank

to him. What can they do to him now? Yeah, he's done a lot of shitty things and been handsomely rewarded. But now that he's done and he's too damn old to be a lobbyist or a consultant after this. So, he may surprise us some more. Iran war powers?
Not comparing McConnel to McCain. McCain was a more decent human being.

(116,020 posts)They just voted to give his private army $70 billion dollars more, with which to do their dirty work. In my opinion, from their comments about the cheating in the California primaries, that is where they will be headed, to confiscate voting machines, to declare martial law - because of the protests, and to knock heads, and terrorize the citizens of California. Tell me it couldn't happen.

(11,788 posts)But, one can sure see that Thom Tillis is acutely aware that he is not returning and will have to go live back in North Carolina again soon.
Where he will, no doubt, be informed about their opinions regarding his positions and votes in the past.
Hopefully, repeatedly.
