CA-GOV: Becerra advances in California governor's race

Former Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra (D) on Thursday advanced to November’s general election in the race to become California’s next governor, Decision Desk HQ projects.

Trump-backed Fox News commentator Steve Hilton (R) and billionaire Tom Steyer (D) are currently battling for the second spot in November’s election, when Golden State voters will decide on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) successor.

Even Orange County is no longer where "good Republicans go to die" (just the ones with money ).

South Orange County is still mostly Republican - but even there, they're at lot less so than before the 2008 calamity.

Becerra will be the D nominee (yay), but to say Hilton and Steyer are “battling for second place” is a little ridiculous. Actual numbers as of the moment are Hilton 27%, Becerra 26%, Steyer 20%. Suffice to say Steyer can’t get to Becerra, but the odds are very high that it will be Becerra v Hilton.

Election results will change throughout the ballot counting canvass period as vote-by-mail ballots, provisional ballots (including conditional voter registration provisional ballots), and other ballots are tallied.

If the Brexit* guy loses, Trump will claim rigged since he already anointed his puppet as the winner.

Steve Hilton was a key adviser to UK Prime Minister David Cameron during the period leading up to and including the 2016 Brexit referendum.

As for the way elections are reported like sports contests is nuts. Who leads while counting is going on is wholy dependent on which groups of votes are conted first and which are counted last. Something Trump makes a meal of when he losses an early lead....

Becerra holds 26.03 percent of the vote as of late Thursday night, while Hilton has won 27.18 percent of the vote and Steyer is in third place with 20.18 percent of the vote.

Becerra appears to be doing well among mail-in voters across the Golden State’s 58 counties and is expected to pass Hilton at the current vote-count pace, according to Decision Desk HQ.

Apparently, the statistical models show Becerra will end up with the most votes and Hilton and Steyer will end up in a close battle for 2nd and 3rd.

A Becerra-Hilton contest is a complete waste of everybody's time and money.

Some of us care who ends up in first. We understand that as long as a Dem makes the top two we will win, but we still want to follow the race and know that Becerra will eventually come in ahead of Hilton. Of course the press will treat Hilton as the winner for days or weeks before that happens, and then pretty much ignore it when Becerra overtakes him.

I wish media persons would stop describing the counting of votes as battling. They are waiting for the votes to be counted.

On the other hand Bush v Gore actually was a battle, a grossly inappropriate court action.
