I was in NYC for the 210th 4th of July... WTC tour, visit the Statue of Liberty... watched the parade of Tall Ships and the fireworks from the barges that surrounded lower Manhattan.

It was special and spectacular.

I will just hold onto those memories from 40 years ago.

It’s just fouled. Like we should wait until he’s out to celebrate anything. Every effort must be to remove him from office. Every other expenditure of energy is wasted if not applied to ending his presidency -legally of course.

I feel the same way and I'd been looking forward to it for a long time. trumps going to make it all about himself. I'd rather not be apart of that.

What I'm looking for is a way to celebrate that clearly demonstrates my personal contempt for the dumbass in the White House and everything associated with him and supports the real American patriotic spirit.

I will be celebrating July 4th at the Obama Presidential Center here in Chicago. According to the public service announcement, the event will be festive, focused on democracy, community and celebration in line with the Center's mission. And of course, in diametric opposition to anything the dumbass in the White House does, the event is free, and not a profiteering, moneymaking, grifter scam. What better way to show opposition to the dumbass.

I plan on going early next year. What a great way to celebrate the 4th! I envy you. I hope you'll give us a full report after your visit.

There will be live music performances and I can't wait to see who some of those will be, along with some interactive activities. It might be too late to get tickets to the museum that day, but I can't think of a better place to be on the 250th.

I do hope i can somehow save up enough by '28-'29...bc now that Obama's Library is opening it's even an extra reason to visit.

In "Vegas talk", he's a Cooler...the guy who always kills the mood and the winning at the tables. Casinos will actually send one in if a table gets too hot or there is a big winner.

I was relived that the GOP back then had some honor and the nation was saved from the criminal that was Nixon.

During the 50 years between then and now, there have been threats and some strengths for our nation. But in recent years, and most assuredly since 2000 and court decision of who won the election by stopping ballot counting in FL, I have been increasingly fearful that my 1976 fears were justified. And I hope John Roberts never gets a night's sleep again.

July 4 was always THE BIG HOLIDAY in my family. Now, with so few of us left, and our beloved country in need of critical care, I am just plain depressed and a bit frightened for the USA. Seeing people coming together to fight the tyranny that Putin's assets are imposing on our nation gives me some hope, but at my age now, I do not see myself living to know the nation is reasonably secure again.

We work to protect, knowing many of us will fall before the effort succeeds. It is a good day, June 6, to keep that in mind. Many fell on the beaches of Normandy before knowing our nation would be secure, but they fought fascists and now we do to, in a different sort of arena.

Sad indeed this year as July draws near.

I had someone ask me if I had any plans and I said nope..just a quiet day for me. Actually, I’m almost in mourning the way this event is shaping up..it’s not a celebration to bring us together..it’s a taxpayer bash for a few select people. I’m gonna wait for a different special occasion and I can assure you I’m definitely gonna celebrate the dream of cleaning up this mess and making sure we build back better and stronger for us, as a nation that dreams of what we can be again and then get it done full proof no one can try to take it away again. Ever

not a lot to celebrate

That’s the celebration here.
If we ever get an actual human being in the WH again, I think there should be an official “postponed 250 years” celebration. I would love to be able to be proud of this country again.

The United States didn't become a nation until 1788, so with any luck at all we can celebrate later.

It may be the day the Declaration was signed, but it certainly didn´t make the "United States" a country yet. There was the whole mess of five years of war against the British first. Even after Cornwallis surrendered, it took over six years for the Constitution to be ratified, and almost another year after that before it went into effect on March 4th, 1789. There was a lot of bickering and infighting as to the makeup of the country-to-be, as the small states like Delaware were apprehensive of being drowned by the bigger states like Virginia (hence two Senators for each state, regardless of size or population--no one in 1787 envisioned a North Dakota or a Wyoming). July 4 is a convenient date for a holiday, but it certainly didn´t represent the day the USA came to exist as an acknowledged sovereign country.

But early March is not ideal for picnics or fireworks in much of North America, so July 4th it is. Once again, my wife and I will probably go down to Köln and celebrate with our German friends of the Amerika Haus, which is a bi-national cultural foundation started after World War II. Thomas Jefferson remains my philosophical hero of the 18th century, and to have written the Declaration of Independence at age 33 was no small feat.

I did,, too, but then decided that I will not let the orange snowflake make me unhappy.

I will celebrate what we can be. I will celebrate the people wh are working to bring us back to normal.

My celebration will be mostly on June 14 at No Kings. And that is the spirit that I will celebrate on the 4th.

It is OUR country, too. Trump and MAGAs do not have exclusive ownership of it.

I will.play Streets of Minnespolis, along with other patriotic songs of resistance. Isn't resistance to tyranny the whole point of Independence Day? So I will celebrate resistance.

I would actually prefer to have a trip outside of the country during that time and skip all the BS.
