He could have had zillions of top stars if it was about America.

Vietnam and Watergate come immediately to mind.

In 2026, the list of reasons to be embarrassed to be an American boggles the mind; I honestly have lost count of the ways my nation has gone off the cliff.

In 1976 there was little reason to doubt our children's children's children would see a tricentennial. Now there is ample reason to wonder if we'll see a 253rd anniversary.

Yeah, I too have very little enthusiasm for celebration.

In 2026, we are heading INTO a severe recession or possibly a depression.

For things we wanted to remember. Like a new dog and a lot of concerts.

He was working steady again, I was doing well in my work, going to college part-time and finally out of hock from the early 70s recession.

"Then and Now" is the title of a Grammy winning studio album by guitar virtuosos and father and son duo Doc and Merle Watson. From the early '70s. One of the greatest examples of flat-picking excellence there is.

He'll be 80 in a week or so. Wonder how much longer he's got. And when THAT happens, I wonder what the public reaction will be.

(intermixed with moments/bursts of joy and elation of course)

i would like to think the public reaction would be one of celebration

hard to say. so many people are so stupid (trumpers) and indifferent (nonvoters) -- who knows how they'll be or if they'll even notice

We may just do it quietly.

But I'll be listening for any other reaction when/if there is one.

Living the sailor life at the time I didn’t know a thing about what was going on back in the states then except that Gerald Ford was the president and we went wherever we were ordered to go.

You must mean “‘Merica”

Because I’m having trouble remembering an America.

In all seriousness, 1976 was certainly more celebratory. Both from the celebration to voting.

I vividly recall owning a pair of white bell bottoms with “Vote” all over them.

I'll save the celebrating for when or if these fascists are thoroughly defeated, giving rise to a new birth of freedom and progress towards a better future.
