"Lazy ass people if they can't get off their fat asses and make it to a polling place,

on election day."

That was Megyn Kelly on Friday. She was commenting about the California primaries and the amount of time it takes to count ballots. She was specifically attacking mail-in voting. She actually said we don't need to make it easy for people to vote.

Fuck you Megyn Kelly!!!

Mr. Dahlia and I started using mail-in ballots during the pandemic. We continue to do so because we remain cautious of closed in places - Covid is still an issue.

In case you didn't know it Megyn, there are lots of people who are physically unable to get to the polls. Some are disabled. Some are elderly. Some don't drive.

But you know all that, don't you? You are tasked with spreading propaganda and sowing division in this country.

When I am in charge of this country - I am going to ban people who are stupid, or who pretend to be stupid, from having access to microphones and time slots. Get your sorry ass a megaphone and a big field...or a remote mountain top. Or better yet - a cave, so you can listen to your own echo.

And let each state conduct their elections as their laws dictate. I’ve been taking advantage of mail in voting since I stood in line 4+ hours in the heat to cast my ballot. I watched old people suffer and having trouble standing while good neighbors gave them their chairs..it was ridiculous to try to use a restroom. Voting was never so chaotic before MAGA made it an issue

Some of us have health issues which make us at risk - nothing irrational about it. I won't bother to try and educate you about my specific health risks, because I am not the only one...it is not just about me.

It has worked very well for them.

To imply that mail in voting is somehow not as trusted as in person or is in some way making democracy vulnerable, is ludicrous.
There was no outrage until the orange one created it. Yet it's OK for him just not the rest of us.

Filled it out and have been mailing my ballots ever since. However, we now have to call every year to keep getting ballots by mail and as of January, 2027, changes to our drivers licenses will require us to to also re-register to vote with new DL identification. It’s Florida’s version of the Save Act. 😤

Oregon has been voting by mail exclusively way before the pandemic. They have one of the highest voting participation rates in the country, so the proof is in the pudding.

What I am irritated with is our drive-through culture that we have to have immediate final results of a very vital and important election process. What is wrong with taking the time to get it right? We fully tolerate being bombarded for several years in a way too long election cycle and yet we need to know the results that night? I will ask you why?

It is because we have no patience and we need to have everything right away. But it takes a while to count ballots and make sure and verify that the voting is correct and secure. I think it makes our elections even more secure rather than rushed.

I order my mail in ballot but often just turn it in at the polling place because I do enjoy election day. However, I am an old person and that’s just what I’m used to. But so many people just want to do it easy and that’s OK too. The President of the United States has voted by mail for years so it’s pretty freaking hypocritical that he rails against us because he knows it allows for convenience, which increases voting participation. That’s what this is attack all about.

Fascists don't need a pretext to be provided by us for their malevolence. They'll use anything, and if there isn't anything to use, they'll make something up. Enough already with the running scared from the right wingers. "Oh, we'd better not do that! Just imagine what the Republicans might say or might do!" I'm tired of the politics of perpetual accommodation. I think most Democrats are.

At some point, a democracy has to stop organizing itself around the anticipated reactions of its opponents. Defend what you believe to be right. Don't live in fear of the next manufactured outrage. People who are determined to undermine democratic institutions do not require genuine reasons or provocations; therefore, organizing public policy around avoiding their bad-faith criticism is futile.

Next, you are cavalierly dismissing the needs of vulnerable people. Many elderly, disabled, immune-compromised, or chronically ill people depend on alternatives to standing in line at a polling place. In many precincts, people have to stand in line for hours, often in inclement weather, in order to vote. You can't ask seniors and handicapped people to endure that. It effectively denies many people the practical ability to exercise their franchise. Whether or not one agrees with every COVID-era policy, reducing their concerns to "irrational fears" is utterly contemptuous.

Democracy is strengthened by broad participation. Here, we support that. (Checking to make sure I am on Democratic Underground). The franchise has generally expanded over the history of the country. People have made great sacrifices to advance that noble cause. People have given their lives in the struggle for voting rights. Absentee voting, early voting, and mail voting are all mechanisms that help people participate who otherwise might not be able to. The burden should be on those who would restrict access to explain why. Care to explain to us why you favor restricting access to the ballot?

Elections are not horse races or football games. The goal is not to produce a ready-for-television (or ready-for-social media) result by any certain time. The goal is to determine the will of the electorate correctly. Who cares how long it takes to count the votes? Accuracy is what's important, not expediency.

The purpose of an election is not to reassure people who are acting in bad faith, which cannot be done in any case. It is to count every legitimate vote accurately while making it possible for every eligible citizen—including the elderly, disabled, and ill—to participate.

In my ruby red county, it's mostly boring. Plus, the Elections office really does do a phenomenal job of training the election workers - and they make every attempt to include as many Democrats as possible in the mix of workers.

However, in the 2020 general, I was able to point out to the poll chief (forget the title) a few couples where the husband and wife were conversing as they filled in their ballots - which is a no-no. One man, who was seriously creepy (looking over his wife's shoulder as she voted), got irate when the chief very politely told him he couldn't do that. He accused her of spying on him!

She thanked me later.

Which is why Repugs hate it. They don't want people to vote, period. The fewer the better, they think.

Now we have universal by default voting by mail, it is no surprise they freak out about it. Well, fuck them.

California makes it easy to vote and it should be that way to encourage people to vote. In California, all registered voters are automatically sent a mail-in ballot. They have the choice of returning their voted mail-in ballot through the mail, drop it off at a mail ballot dropoff box or polling location, or surrendering their ballot at an polling site and voting there.

I'd love to hear Megyn Kelly explain, in her limited and ignorant way, what the process is when the polls close on election day. She should be able to explain what happens with the votes when the polling site closes, how and where the ballots go, how the ballots get to the Registrar of Voters (ROV), how the ROV processes the ballots to verify no one has voted twice, how the ROV counts and reports the vote.

I'm willing to be she couldn't get even 25% of the process correct.

Megyn Kelly needs to get off her sorry, lazy ass and learn the vote counting process in California!

So many of their regular R voters are senior citizens who sit home and watch Faux Noise day and night. Those are people who would definitely prefer to vote via mail.

But Chump pulled the rug out from under them in 2016 when he campaigned AGAINST mailed ballots for ... reasons that make no sense. Later he tried to back away from it and he tried to say that mailed ballots were something the R's should do, but it was way too late by then.

The only legitimate fear used to be that someone who wanted to vote twice could mail a ballot and then go and vote in person. But it's already been proven in the last 3 elections that this will never happen. They get stopped every time. And guess who gets caught? ... It's always R voters who try it and they never get away with it.
