Everyone!!! Please read Jeff Tiedrich's column* today. An amazing

eulogy for his wife, Claudia Long, who died unexpectedly in February. So much love and joy.

*Jeff's column is "Everyone's Entitled To My Opinion", which I get every morning just in time for breakfast.

I’ve been a huge Jeff fan for a while now. My life has paralleled his: we found our true love in the same year. Our children were born at the same time. Our wives were and have been the most amazing people we have ever met. And the darkest moment of WWII affected our extended families: we both hate Nazis and Nazi thinking to our core.

Every column that Jeff has written since Claudia passed away has has made my heart ache because I know how I would feel if I lost my significant other. I have wanted to reach out through the internet and somehow say the words that could assuage his grief….but there may be no words for that difficult task.

So yeah, I read his column today holding back tears. If it should sound strange that I could have empathy for someone that I have never met, then all I can say is that without empathy for our fellow man….. we are fucked!

Same reasons, a decade later. I cannot imagine what he's been through these months because I really don't want to. Scares me to even go there. Breaks my heart for someone who's writing and spirit I dearly love. If he sees this, he's in our thoughts. Love you, man.

know that he reads many, if not all, of them. I think it would be a very loving thing if you wrote to him. The loving energy will be there.

toward the bottom. That is what I use. If you are on his webpage, linked upthread, there is commentary at the bottom, so you should be able to post there.

“ … at the end of the day, what more needs to be said about two people who got to spend 46 years together? I loved Claudia and Claudia loved me. that’s pretty good, and I will love continue to Claudia every day for the rest of my life. I’d like to think that little girl back in Los Angeles, dreaming of cocktail dresses and martini glasses, would have approved.“

...at his website, SmirkingChimp. I left decades ago, but I never had any ill will toward him and I've appreciated his commentary and fight against the fascists.

It sounds like a beautiful marriage; I know how I'd feel in the same place. (I am selfishly hoping to die before my wife does; she'd do better without me than I would without her.)

The tribute was beautiful indeed.

Recently, Jeff has been sharing photos of his lovely wife over the years. I'm glad that he is sharing a fraction of their life together. I'm a daily reader of his usually foul-mouthed take on the worst-possible timeline.

the Daily Claudia section as well. Did you happen to see last week that somebody was actually low-class enough to bitch about it? I wanted to reach through the screen and smack them.

He has an important voice and that has been missed lately, for very good reason.

He may not have the most insightful or historically-based takes on events. But we have people like Thom Hartmann and others to cover that. Jeff has his own way of bringing the outrage to a fine point, and this can communicate with many people.

I wish him health (mental and physical) and continued healing.

as ascerbic as ever. There have only been a few days that he has not posted an entire piece, but even on his self-care days, he still posts at least one brief commentary. He has said that these columns are part of how he is dealing with his grief.
