Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.) is projected to win his primary in New Yorks 15th Congressional District, overcoming a challenge from the left, according to Decision Desk HQ.
Torres, who has increasingly found himself at odds with the progressive wing of his party, defeated former state assemblyman Michael Blake, all but securing reelection this November.
Blake was part of a slew of left-leaning candidates challenging incumbents in New York, but he failed to gain the traction of some of the other progressive challengers. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) stayed out of the Torres race, a notable difference from other districts, where the mayor threw his political weight behind some insurgent campaigns.
But Torress district is one of the few New York City districts that Mamdani did not carry in the Democratic mayoral primary last summer, suggesting the mayors support might not have turned the tide in Blakes favor.

(152,036 posts)It was just three House districts. And they were the only ones with Mamdani endorsements. He skipped the rest.
