He won the Democratic primary election last night for the NY 10th Congressional District. Dan Goldman lost. And while I have liked Dan Goldman as well, I believe Brad Lander is a strong choice for representation in Congress. Goldman did a great job as lead majority counsel in the first impeachment hearing against the grifter. He has continued to be a smart voice against the grifter, while in Congress. Dan Goldman has a strike against him (IMHO) because he takes AIPAC money.
Brad Lander has exhibited great bravery in the way he has protected immigrants who show up to the Federal building in NYC. He has protected them with his physical body, and he has even gotten arrested twice.
Lander was just on MSNOW being interviewed by Antonia Hylton. It was a great interview. IMHO, he is the real deal. He exhibits passion and compassion. He is soft spoke and rational, and yet he is a fighter. He will be a fighter for the People and for Democracy in Congress.
Lander said we need fighters, not folders. He wants to be a part of seeing the Democratic Party doing a better job for the People. A lot of us have been frustrated by the tendency to fold, on the part of Dems and particularly Democratic leadership. We need fighters. We are in the fight of our lives. We need to fight for Democracy. The time is now, and it looks like Brad Lander is ready for it.
I will try and find the interview to share.
Meanwhile, here is a link to his Wiki page , for those who are not familiar with him. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brad_Lander

(6,888 posts)Early on in the interview Brad Lander talks about the incident where Dan Goldman was essentially harassed by owners of a coffee shop he visited.
He also talks about the way he feels Joe Biden was "played" by Netanyahu. I agree with Lander on this point. I think Joe Biden was a very good president, and got some great legislation passed. But there are a few points where he may have meant well....but wasn't infallible.
The best part of the interview (IMHO) was in the second half.
At the 3:30 mark he shares his thoughts on shared humanity and his intention to be a bridge to repairing divisions.
At 4:48 he talks about genocide and how he came to use the term himself. He shares his hope and goals for respect, dignity, and shared safety. He tells a story of Jews in the West Bank who are a "protective presence" to shield Palestinians from harm.

(115,169 posts)but, this is an honest question...who is funding Lander and is there any group equally untrustworthy as AIPAC has become? Likewise, how deeply funded by AIPAC was Dan Goldman?
Since I could not vote in that election, I did not research it, but there ARE donations and then there ARE DONATIONS--so it would be nice to know which, since Goldman's opponents are implying the was all but "owned" by AIPAC in terms of what he would do in the future. While I don't doubt he has been a friend to Israel in the past, most in Congress HAVE and that would not have been remotely controversial in years past. And now, I don't know that that means he might not have moderated his positions given both Trump and Netanyahu were in office.
Were you living/voting in the district represented? I find Mamdani quite interesting as well. That he had thee of his endorsed candidates (including two who defeated incumbents) win is quite the statement as well. Not that it extended beyond that area of NYC but still interesting and worth watching.
I congratulate them all. Lander, especially seems worth watching. That said, I do hope Goldman stays close and we hear from him again--in whatever role.

(6,888 posts)Here is a breakdown of the funding for Goldman. https://www.opensecrets.org/profiles/dan-goldman/us_congress/summary?mpid=1147454
His constituents had been complaining about his support for military spending to help Israel.
Brad Lander had called for an "AIPAC free" Congressional race. He emphasized grass roots funding in his campaign. He was also supported by groups who support "progressive" candidates. I could not find a granular breakdown, like I did for Goldman.
Yes - Goldman is extremely smart and talented. I am sure he will do well in his next chapter, and I hope it involves being a part of saving Democracy.
