LINCOLN There is an effort underway in Nebraska to gather enough voters signatures to form a new political party in the state.
The sponsor behind the push for the new party, called Nebraska Working People Party, is Robin Richards, according to paperwork obtained through the Secretary of States office.
The stated purpose of the Nebraska Working People Party is to provide Nebraska voters with a political organization dedicated to advancing the interests of working families, middle-class Nebraskans, rural communities, small businesses, farmers, ranchers, and individuals seeking practical solutions to improve economic opportunity, strengthen communities, and promote responsive and accountable government.
Organizers who want to create a new political party ahead of the November election have a July 15 deadline. The group would need to collect at least one percent of the total votes cast for Governor at the most recent general election for such office, according to state law. Which would be around 6,726 signatures.

(9,077 posts)This is what happens when your party lets decades of the economic decimation of rural towns and villages go unaddressed with no face to face outreach. Doing nothing to counter the propaganda flooding the airwaves, satisfied to wait their turn on Sunday TV talk shows.
Other organizers, whatever their agenda, will fill that vacuum.
This is a party leadership failure. Lack of energy, lack of urgency in key regards, combined with lack of patience in others, forming a perfect storm of ineffective coalition building.
So content to wait until a fucking racist, child-raping, thief is elected twice and dismantling our system of checks and balances, sacrificing decades of egalitarian work for marble under their feet and leather under their asses trying to ride a wave for another term of podium performance.
More Democratic Party-adjacent coalitions, like the DFL, DSA, the Greens, Working Families, will pop up the more our party elevates centrist, corporate policy over human well-being. People are done being frustrated. Democrats have to recognize this and embrace this energy, not drive it into the shoals.
