State Attorney General Phil Weisers victory marks a remarkable upset in a contest Bennet allies only weeks ago believed he was heavily favored to win.
Weiser worked to reframe the race around a message that has increasingly resonated with Democratic voters, casting Bennet as a D.C. insider and himself as the best candidate to fight President Donald Trump, highlighting the many lawsuits hed lobbed at the administration.
In the end, that message won over Bennets massive fundraising advantage and lead in name recognition and public polling.

I think Democratic leadership might want to pay attention, the voters sure are.

(4,204 posts)What won me over was Weiser being in favor of changing our state constitution so we can enter the redistricting fight. He came out early and strong in favor of doing it.
Also, Bennet REALLY wanted to appoint his own successor in the senate.
I just wish Julie Gonzalez could have won over Hickenlooper.

We don't need Dems adding more to that establishment.

(4,204 posts)Even though I voted for Weiser. This fight wasnt about some leftward push. My son voted for Bennet because he believed Bennet is more liberal. I just think Weiser had better ideas, more energy, and way more credibility when it comes to fighting against everything the orange menace does.

(10,066 posts)money has pushed them further and further to the right, and away from our core values.
The democrats have conceded ground to the takeover of the media, the churches, and the schools so that the only message most people hear is how the right feels about everything. And all the republicans have to sell is more swamp!
I'm not sure the democrats have much more to lose, as is evidenced by the six sinister supremes taking powers from congress, and the total media & election machine ownership and takeover by right wing activists, and, well, a dictator in the white house.
Once people have nothing else to lose.....

(20,808 posts)Is he tired of being a senator? Will he decline to run for reelection?
And if he does run again, will he have trouble winning the primary?

Voters are paying attention. I think he might want to pay attention to voters when it comes to 2029. People here are pissed off.

(6,943 posts)Is he tired of being a senator?
Probably, we never hear of anything he does here in Colorado.
Will he decline to run for reelection?
Hopefully, as he'll be 80 at the end of his term....he needs to go rest, same as DeGette.
And if he does run again, will he have trouble winning the primary?
Abso-fucking-lutely. He's out of touch with what the base of the Democratic Party wants.

(1,041 posts)Michael Bennet ran for Governor of Colorado on the Democratic primary ballot and his competitor was Phil Weiser (currently State Attorney General.) Phil Weiser won the Democratic primary contest and will appear on the ballot in November.

(1,041 posts)And, yes, Democratic leadership should wake up and smell the roses.
US House Rep Dianne DeGette lost the Dem primary to a newcomer; Democratic Socialist Melat Kiros
What is disappointing to me in the results of the primary is to see how many Districts had no competitors.
BComplex
(10,066 posts)party: the current leadership is out of touch by NOT having competitors in ALL races via a 50-state solution. Howard Dean....way back when....kept trying to get the Democratic party to go for a 50-state solution, and they let him get metaphorically swiftboated by the media with no fight back.
Voters, like me, have been sick to our stomachs over the lack of fight from the Democratic party. Now we're starting to get our voices heard, and the money and leadership had better accept the fact that we STAND FOR SOMETHING, and that something is to fight for the people who fund the government: us.

(1,041 posts)The Democratic entrenched leadership is actually fighting against the people that make up their constituency by refusing to acknowledge change. And it will continue to bite them in the behind until they wake up to what the people want and start providing it. As elections continue, they will be weeded out until they understand that THEY are the problem.
In the end, you cannot stop progress no matter who you are. . . .

(430 posts)I know Phil personally and know his character so the vote for governor was very easy for me. We need Mike to keep that Senate seat so this in reality was a best of both worlds situation. With that said, I hope people dont get let down when the policy differences between Phil and Mike are so small and Phil is not as progressive as people think. He will be a huge upgrade over Polis
BComplex

(430 posts)I talk a lot on here about our side needing to better vet candidates before they get the endorsement and while some think Im talking about people like Platner, Im really talking about Polis. Polis is and was always a libertarian and people in Colorado have always known that. He is pro business and more importantly pro himself. Polis is extremely wealthy and funded his congressional campaign and his governor campaign. We were fooled into voting for him because he touted his progressive values but looking back on it he was probably a log cabin Republican. His behavior during the pandemic gave the entire game away and every time the Colorado legislature puts pro worker laws on his desk he vetoes them. Not because they are bad but according to his information they would be.

(2,892 posts)pro-corporate DINO from day one........and boy did his corporate right leaning come out of the woodwork during this ending lame duck term........
In my opinion, some of the others were totally ineffective,..... just cruising along,..... do nothings........
DeGette......Bennett......Hickenlooper...........
But the Colorado Democrat Party had best get it together quickly, because the Republicans see this as an incredible opening to push hard to turn Colorado into at least a Purple state. I can only imagine the zillions of republican dollars, that are now legally allowed, and will for certain, flow into this election.
