AOC endorses El Sayed in MI Democratic Senate primary

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jul/02/aoc-endorses-el-sayed-michigan

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has thrown her support behind Abdul El-Sayed, the doctor and progressive Democrat seeking the party’s nomination in Michigan’s closely watched US Senate race.

In an interview with the New York Times, Ocasio-Cortez – an influential congresswoman on the left of the Democratic party – endorsed El-Sayed, a former public health director. “Despite our ideological differences and whatever disagreements there are in the party, every single one of us sees this moment as existential,” she said.

I don't care for Piker one way or the other but most of the candidates he supports and gets his under 30 audience to support end up winning.

Take selfies with him? No? Then it's not really the same is it?

Tying yourself to a guy that said he would "vote for Hamas." Isn't going to go the way you think.

If El Sayed wins the primary he will most likely win the general election. Talk in November

You are drastically underrating how much this will hurt him.

Similar with Planter and his issues in Maine, already trailing in the polls to Collins

With polling compared to Mike Rogers El-Sayed leads with women and younger men. Mike Rogers leads with older men so he will have to make up ground where he trails but I think he can reach a lot of the uncommitted and younger voters to help him win statewide.

Piker will probably lose the Fox News crowd but they were likely to lose those voters anyway. Most people especially younger voters will seek out these people themselves on whatever platforms they're on and make up their own mind. El-Sayed was not in first place in polling before the rally he did with Piker. Since the outrage over that he has actually moved to first place and got more grassroots donations.

Running ads with pikers own words and their pictures together.

"Would vote for Hamas."

"Rapes don't change my view."

from the article:

El-Sayed’s populist economic platform includes banning tax incentives for companies such as Amazon, imposing new taxes on billionaires, eliminating medical debt and strengthening anti-monopoly laws to curb corporate price-gouging. He has also called for an end to “blank check” military aid to Israel and other countries.

'Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, one of the nation’s most prominent progressives, is endorsing Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for Senate in Michigan, wading into her first contested Senate primary of 2026 in one of the nation’s top battlegrounds.

Her endorsement, which she made in an interview with The New York Times, represents one of Ms. Ocasio-Cortez’s most assertive moves so far this year to build up the left flank of the Democratic Party. And it puts the congresswoman from New York in direct conflict with Senator Chuck Schumer, who has backed a more moderate candidate, Representative Haley Stevens, who he argues is more electable.

.... The race pits Dr. El-Sayed, an outspoken progressive proponent of Medicare for all, against the moderate Ms. Stevens, who has been boosted by more than $16 million in super PAC spending, including millions from pro-Israel groups. Mallory McMorrow, a state senator who has built a national following of her own, has run as a progressive and tried to occupy an ideological middle ground between the other two..."
