It's not because of MAGA America reached 250 years

America reached 250 years due the norms, traditions and an honor system, of believing in good, believing in change for the better, not because of some lunatic who wanted to tear everything down and has often times succeeded.

America reached 250 years due to evolving and progressing forward for the better, not by going back in time. America reached 250 years because enough people were informed and enlightened and believed their own eyes and ears, not by living in their own reality. America reached 250 years through also a sense of community and caring for others, not wonton selfishness and recklessness.

I’m not going to be patriotic on a day in which there’s unprecedented corruption in the White House and those in power don’t even pretend to care. I’m not going to be patriotic on a day in which insurrection and 34 felony convictions are not dealbreakers. I’m not going to be patriotic on a day where leadership serves one despicable, disgusting individual instead of hundreds of millions of citizens. I’m not going to be patriotic on a day celebrating a country where so many of its people have such morally bankrupt values.

I’d take anybody, literally anybody, before the felon as our president on this day - even Nixon, even Reagan, even Dubya.

I’ve never seen sociopathy on such a large scale in this country. That’s not whom we’re supposed to be.

I watched Dave Righetti’s no-hitter on YouTube, got a baseball game I’m covering tonight, but that’s about it.

I wasn’t alive in 1976 for the 200th. I would be in my eighties if I’m still around for the 300th. I long for the day where I can be proud to be an American, because I can maybe count two or three times since 1/20/2025 where that’s been the case - the election of Pope Leo XIV, the Blue Tsunami of November 2025. That’s about it.

Give me more. I want a country where I’m proud to be an America every day and not once in a great while.
