I admit that I have never heard of some of then: Bruce Springsteen The River and Tom Waite in the neighborhood are thought provoking. Telegaraph Rd -14 min! Spouse prefers John Browns Body to the sanitized (his word) Battle Hymn of the Republic.

I remember being stationed in Korea in the 80's and we go to the bars outside the base and play American Pie on the jukebox with everyone joining in ... good times. Pretty sure all the locals there would consider it the, or at least an, American Anthem.
edit to add: I see it listed several times, probably the most mentioned. the GI factor is probably a big reason.
