Those of you who lived in SoCal in the 70s and 80s probably remember their ads for "Ski Bandini Mountain"

Just your local fertilizer/steer manure manufacturer

Now that I think about it, the mountain, as-is, bears a striking resemblance to him. And his aroma

It’s likely why it’s taking so long. Why finish it really? We should as a government give zero to that.

I've spent much of my adult life promoting the fine arts.

"Art is the great democrat, calling forth creative genius from every sector of society, disregarding race or religion or wealth or color." -- President John F. Kennedy

This nation would be a different place if we had continued to value them like JFK.

Zero. It’s actually not profit when I looked it up. I paid when I went. It has non profit status which it can only have if it does not accept government funding.

The entire project has made one family wealthy. I read an article years ago how construction was being stretched out for generations because it brings in a lot of money. Why kill the golden goose.

Two illustrative examples, of my point, using the United States colony (or territory) of Puerto Rico:

GOP policy is dehumanization, a NAZI approach.

Please contrast with times before a hurricane knocked out power for a year, and before FEMA and the Wall Street penured the Commonwealth.

DEM policy in JFK’s administration was equality, a democratic approach.

A meaningful performance. The Spanish cellist Pablo Casals headlined the 1961 state dinner that the Kennedys held for Luis Muñoz Marín, the governor of Puerto Rico. Casals lived in Puerto Rico at the time because he opposed the dictatorship in Spain. One of the songs he performed, “Song of the Birds,” is a Catalan Christmas carol that, according to the Kennedy Presidential Library, symbolized Spain as well as Casals’ feelings for hope and freedom.

Ideas, like culture and Constitution, need all manner of support. The nations which actively and consistently support its arts and artists, like Canada and Denmark, are not only more successful economically, they are happier places than those which don’t, like NAZI Germany and North Korea. Just sayin’.

Or we could simply leave it be. There will come a day when no one is interested in or capable of maintaining it.

Mt. Rushmore is just dumb - as is the Crazy Horse Memorial and Stone Mountain. A rape of nature. I find it all just so stupid and offensive. That may not be a popular opinion - but I've always thought those displays were ridiculous. It's like no one ever read
"Ozymandias." It's Guinness Book of World Records trashy. WhiskeyGrinder you triggered me.

This fear of that pig Trump being added is irrational because it literally cannot happen. He could try to DESTROY Mt. Rushmore for spite, but I would hope he'd be stopped.

That said, It's a really fun, beautiful and kitschy road trip from where I live in Wisconsin: Blue Earth MN and the Jolly Green Giant; Wall Drug; the Corn Palace; the Badlands; the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers; Black Hills; Custer State Park; the Dignity of Earth and Sky monument; and the Crazy Horse memorial (which I agree need to be finished already FFS! Why isn't it funded?).

I've done this trip many times over the years and I love it, although the last trip a few years ago (2021)was made tense a few times by aggressive Magats being obnoxious. It was some fat, white, male wannabe bikers in Keystone and some of the same selling MAGA crap near our motel in Wall. I still hope to do it one more time. I won't let them ruin it.

I think Trump is out of luck.

Besides, the family of Korczak Ziolkowski will see to it the project will never be completed. It is a cash cow stringing people along for decades on end. Korczak Ziolkowski died in 1982, but he started the sculpture in 1948.

The family could have put their fake pride aside and gotten federal and state help to complete it years ago.

The carving, a Klan favorite, depicts Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and Stonewall Jackson. Trump would fit right in.
