Nebraska's 2nd District congressional race seems poised to once again prove that most congressional politics has become national, this time including a visit by a Democrat who might run for president.

Former U.S. Transportation Secretary and former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg is endorsing CD2 Democratic nominee Denise Powell on Tuesday by press release, The World-Herald has learned. He's also planning an Omaha visit July 14 to boost her campaign.

Buttigieg called Powell a "fierce advocate" for "defending Nebraska families." She co-founded Women Who Run and owns a consulting firm.

"While Republicans in Washington seem to prioritize everything but the challenges people are facing ... Denise will be laser-focused on bringing down the cost of everything from groceries to housing," Buttigieg said in a statement obtained Monday by The World-Herald.
