My letter to the editor that was published in the Cleveland Plain Dealer...

My heart is broken because the America that I love is no more
I hope the Republicans are proud of the destruction their president has caused around the world.

A war that was not approved by Congress has caused chaos, our beautiful White House has been ravaged, the Lincoln

Memorial Reflecting Pool has carried the weight of the Presidential motorcade and millions of dollars in damage.

Immigrants have been arrested and living in deplorable conditions. Parents separated from their children and people have died thanks to ICE. People are starving because of losing their SNAP benefits.

Our education, health system and women’s rights are being destroyed. Our voting rights are threatened every single day. Racism is rampant.

I no longer recognize this country and my heart is broken when I think of the 250th celebration coming up. If this is great, please take us back to not-so-perfect.

That was the America that I loved.

The writer is a librarian from Middleburg Heights. Name withheld by request.

I think you speak for many of us in saying your heart is broken, I know mine is.
