I don't think we are yet at the point where we have to anticipate the intentions of millions of people and act before one even does so*. Maybe Spielberg movies, but at the point some DOJ moron tries to indict, let's see what any and nearly all judges--sick to death of their antics--decide to do.

*States do investigate ballots that cannot be confirmed to be eligible to be cast and they do prosecute. But pre-anticipation and removal of these ballots ahead of time when it is on the order of 1/million? Yeah, right. Let me see a judge who will back you up on this, you assholes. Elections are a state function. Period.

The fear is not performative. It is real, induced by threats and arrests, even if those threats and arrests do not result in jail time, but in sleepless nights or legal bill impoverishment.

The pressure point may be performative from the point of view of the person initiating the emotions/reactions, a psychopath of one type or another, but it sure feels real. I should know better than to forget the victims of such action. I've had to live with it since I was 30.
