If a person is "brain dead" , what's the status of their soul?

Does it hang around with their body till actual death or can it travel on ahead to the fires of hell?

The brain is the house where the mind lives, and I think most people would agree the soul is a product of the mind.

When the meat machine breaks, the spiritual stuff leaks out.

judgment and punishment. Times like this I really want (no, make that NEED) to believe that there is a Hell with some personalized list of torture commensurate with the evil committed but I don't believe that.
