He could have gone with the one that likes men who assault women.

(58,464 posts)Everything about Platner was a lie. Daniel Moraff and his fiancée, Leanne Fan, recruited Platner without vetting him, and foisted him on Maine Democratic voters.

There is some RW spin, but I just keep in mind that it is spin and NOT the words of the Clinton Foundation!
I'm kinda curious how he "showed up". And how he got on their radar.
The only thing I remember was some guy was running for senator in Maine had a Nazi tattoo. I thought, "Well, that's the end of that".
But pretty soon everyone was rallying around him.
Gov Mills appeared to be too old.
And that's that.....

As did Simone Sanders today on her show, specifically calling out Daniel and Leanne, and how they recruited the man without vetting.
Sorry for the bad source. After I heard Simone Sanders say that, I tried to Google Leanne and Daniel for a source to cite and that one popped up. There are plenty other sources that mention them, like this MSN piece: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/these-people-handpicked-graham-platner-he-s-now-democrats-biggest-risk/ar-AA252G8G
Heres Platner telling Jon Stewart about how they came to his house to talk him into running. Apparently, the extent of their vetting consisted of them looking up that he donated to Bernie Sanders, and that Platner had initially told them to fuck off, as Platner recounts starting at the 8:12 minute mark:
Sadly, they did not fuck off, and managed to convince Platner to run, foisting him on Maine Democratic voters.

They didn't vet him for some reason....
They kept defending him when his flaws showed
What Graham Platners rise and unraveling reveal about the politics of 2026
The fatal miscalculation by the liberal activists who fueled the rise of an unknown 41-year-old Maine oyster farmer and combat veteran was not that they failed to vet Graham Platner.
^***********
His backers were dazzled both by the prospect of putting forward a talented political outsider to take his shot at flipping a must-win Senate seat and by the rebuke it would be to their own partys entrenched establishment.
Though a rushed early scrub of Platners background had revealed a few potential problems, including some offensive posts that he had made on social media, his top strategist, Daniel Moraff, argued in a June interview with the Wall Street Journal that Mainers would actually view his flaws as selling points in his bid to unseat Republican incumbent Susan Collins.
If what the voters wanted were people who were grown in vats and had never done or said anything that they might regret their entire lives, wed have a very different country, Moraff told interviewer Aaron Zitner. Part of our thesis here is that people do not want their candidates grown in vats. They want people who are real human beings, and they want people who do not look and sound like the vat-grown people whove been leading this country off a cliff.

Wonder how Daniel Moraff feels about his experiment & "selling points" being accused of rape with a lot of documented evidence.
I searched for it but couldn't find anything. Except.. we didn't vet much.
ETA~ Daniel Moraff needs to do something to make up for foisting his Mistake on American Democracy.
Planter spent some of his primary time on texting insults about our Democratic Party.
And look at him now.

(45 posts)He beat the stuffing out of a sitting governor who had a moment of anti Trump resistance that would have gladdened the heart & grabbed a much needed Senate seat. Aaaaaaaaaaa ...but the DEMOCRATIC heart wanted to ride the fast horse on a dark rainy night and take a chance with one of Bernie's "jokers in the deck".

(129 posts)Although probably not the case here, I do worry about Republican dirty tricks. With their unlimited money and twisted minds I am sure they wouldnt hesitate to intervene to boost a scandal, or even create one. Democrats really need to pick up the senate to have real options the final 2 years of this presidency and this is likely the most winnable senate pick up and now it looks pretty bleak. Big money can make a lot of people play dirty games.
