The red flag that led to Graham Platners collapse was hiding in plain sight, the Wall Street Journal reports.
For months, a 2024 Facebook post cautioning women against dating Platner, the Democratic nominee for the Senate in Maine, had been circulating among the political class in the state and in Washington, D.C. The post was written by one of Platners former romantic partners, and her name was attached.
It was one of many signs overlooked by a set of upstart political activists who recruited Platner and ran his campaign. They had set out to prove that they knew better than Democratic leaders how to win elections, but they failed to reckon with the flaws in the candidate they had backed for one of the partys most important elections of the year.

All of this could have been avoided, but not for arrogance.

(60,923 posts)Their opinions may be worthless, but this was a rare case of them just stating the obvious. It was not an insightful case of investigative reporting worthy of a Pulitzer nomination.

and tho he may deserve it, i have no idea, but hes got full disability from the marines. still hes fit to b an oysterman and a senator? again, not saying he doesnt deserve it. but arent there lots of vets out there fighting to get that and failing? id just like to know how that works, cuz it dont seem fair.

Maybe, people should read more newspapers that dont adhere to only their political viewpoint. And Im talking about ones that are considered mainstream media (god I hate that term.)
Though sadly, the info would have been dismissed by most as fake news. Quite ironic, imo.

(66,746 posts)How often did it get the "boys will be boys"/"drunken servicemen will be drunken servicemen" pass? And his shitty social media history, when did we know about that? Etc, etc, etc.
It's uncomfortable to be sure, but that "they" becomes "we" pretty swiftly.

There is a lot of blame for abernie here though. He endorsed him early without proper vetting and the bozos running this campaign are from his machine.
