ICE killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston's East End

ICE killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston's East End yesterday, claiming he tried to ram and run over an agent, but his family says a 52 year old man who spent 35 years here, put three American sons through college, and was working toward legal status doesn't deserve to be reduced to a headline.
This is the pattern now. ICE said basically the same thing about Renee Good, and it was contradicted. They said it about Ruben Ray Martinez too, and video didn't back up their story either. Every time, the same script: he drove at us, self defense, case closed, no video released.
Salgado Araujo spent his life building homes, working sunrise to sunset for decades so his three sons, all American citizens, could go to college. He met his wife when they were teenagers in Mexico and built a family and a life here. No criminal record, according to his congresswoman.
He was reportedly in the process of getting legal status after putting it off for years while he was busy raising kids and building other people's houses. That is the American dream by any honest definition, and it ended with him bleeding out on the street while three other people, including his own uncle, were detained nearby.
His son Ronaldo said he recognized his father on video not by his face, but by the sound of his voice crying for help. That's the image his family will carry, not the one ICE put out in a press release hours later.
Local Democrats, from Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia to Congressman Menefee, are demanding an independent, fully public investigation, and they're right to. Release the footage. Name the agent. Let facts decide, not a talking point.

Six months after Good and Pretti were gunned down on the streets of Minneapolis, federal prosecutors have done nothing to hold their killers accountable. Salgado Araujo's murderers willl also go unprosecuted, they might even give them ICE medals.

our justice system to protect us from our own government. Everything....repeat everything, seems to justify a death sentence, especially if you are a person of color.

The feeling of helplessness grows every day as normal people trying their best to improve the lives of their families. So sad. ☮
