Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox re-elected to fourth term

Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox was re-elected to a fourth term Tuesday by almost 90 percent of voters.

Maddox, 44, thanked his supporters for ushering him to victory in his first political challenge since 2005.

"You don't ever take for granted the opportunity to serve," Maddox said. "Certainly, I respect the voters of Tuscaloosa and I was going to give them everything I've got to make sure we were successful."

Fifteen percent of the city's 59,221 registered voters went to the polls Tuesday. In all, 9,022 votes were cast.
