Alabama leaders who worked to force the Monday resignation of Gov. Robert Bentley are turning their fire on the man who stalled impeachment proceedings against the governor before gaining an appointment to the U.S. Senate.
...
State Rep. Ed Henry, a born-again Republican who pushed hard for Bentleys impeachment, says he wouldn't rule out a federal investigation.
Henry relayed to U.S. News a shocking conversation he says he had with Bentley on the same day Strange accepted the Senate appointment. Henry says he organized the Feb. 9 meeting to apologize to Bentley for enjoying his suffering, something he felt compelled to do recalling his personal experience being saved. At the meeting, Henry says he cautioned Bentley against appointing Strange, only to hear a jaw-dropping explanation from the governor.
I met with Gov. Bentley the day he appointed Strange and told him, If you do this, you will be impeached, Henry recalls. Gov. Bentleys reply to me was, Ed, we have to get rid of him. Hes corrupt. And I said, Youre going to appoint someone who you believe to be corrupt to the U.S. Senate? He said, We have to. I said, Even if that means you most likely will be indicted or impeached? He said, Im not going to be indicted, I get to appoint his successor.

"But (Captain Charles Kennedy, a retired police officer) didnt give up. He started writing detailed letters to Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange and other state officials outlining the rampant abuse (of children) at the Restoration Youth Academy (RYA). All the while, he was adding new victims to his list of people to contact.
"Yet his efforts mostly led to more of the same. Early in 2012, Kennedy says the attorney generals chief investigator, Tim Fuhrman, brushed him off after hed done an on-site investigation that didnt confirm Kennedys claims. Fuhrman apparently didnt try to contact many of RYAs former cadets or their families who were willing to speak about the programs horrors, a point confirmed by some of the victims. Nobody ever called me or cared, except Captain Kennedy, says one parent.
"On February 3, 2012, Kennedy says he got a call from Fuhrman, who told him the attorney general (i.e., Strange) had determined the case wasnt worth pursuing. These children are from out of state and their parents dont vote here and I dont want the churches mad at me, Kennedy says Fuhrman told him in regards to Stranges views.
"...Kennedy is equally outraged that former state Attorney General Luther Strange has been appointed a U.S. senator to replace Jeff Sessions, the new U.S. attorney general. He [Strange] threw the children under the bus so he could grease the way for his political ambitions, Kennedy says. All these politicians have lined their pockets with the blood of children.
