Doug Jones endorses Randall Woodfin for mayor of Birmingham

U.S. Sen. Doug Jones announced his endorsement of Mayor Randall Woodfin Thursday for re-election as mayor of Birmingham. In a video recorded in front of 16th Street Baptist Church, Jones points to the promises he says Woodfin has kept as proof of his leadership and commitment to setting Birmingham “on the right path towards a better future, paved by diversity, equity, and inclusion.”

Jones highlights the success of Woodfin’s “unprecedented investments in Birmingham’s people” with Birmingham Promise, Pardons for Progress and revitalization efforts in all 99 neighborhoods. He goes on to discuss Woodfin’s progress Reimagining Public Safety with his recently-announced ban on high-risk no-knock raids, choke-holds, implementation of the Civilian Review Board and removal of over 5,000 illegal guns from Birmingham’s streets since taking office.

“Randall led us through the challenges of COVID to make real progress for the people of Birmingham, but he isn’t stopping there,” said Jones. “Vision 2025 builds on the progress we’ve seen over the past four years — even more record investments in Birmingham’s people, communities, infrastructure and neighborhoods…On August 24th, Birmingham has the opportunity to keep making Progress Together under Mayor Woodfin’s leadership.
