https://www.al.com/news/2021/08/alabama-ag-steve-marshall-wants-to-hear-from-people-blocked-by-social-media.htmlAlabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has launched an initiative aimed at what he calls the growing menace of censorship by social media giants such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, echoing former President Donald Trumps complaints about alleged bias.
Marshall has teamed up with Louisiana AG Jeff Landry to gather complaints from social media users about suspensions, content blocking, and other restrictions they have encountered.
Big Tech is not the Ministry of Truth, Marshall said in a press release. It should concern us all when platforms that hold such tremendous power and influence over information wield that power in contradiction of and with undisguised disdain for the foundational American principles of free speech and freedom of the press.
Its the same message Trump has declared in his longstanding battles with Twitter and Facebook. In 2019, Trumps White House set up its own complaint tool for people to report what they considered incidents of tech bias.
This year, Facebook suspended Trump for two years after he praised participants in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, calling them great patriots. Twitter permanently suspended Trumps account, which had 88 million followers, saying his tweets about the rioters were likely to incite more violence.
In July, Trump filed a lawsuit against Facebook, Google, and Twitter, claiming he was wrongly censored by the companies. /snip

(2,636 posts)Hate speech is hate speech. Incitement to violence and threats to elected officials are still crimes. That's not censorship. THat's being a good corporate citizen, no?

How about TRUTH as a foundational American principle also?
Oh wait, then that would mean FOX "News" would have to "concern us all."
A waste of flesh.

(22,972 posts)My daughter went to a casting call for a TV show and was never cast.
Plus I've written six novels in my mind and not a one has been published.
And my ex-wife once wrote an editorial and sent it to CBS News and they didn't use it.
Clearly my family is being censored by Big Media.
Who is going to stand up for people like us?
