Protect
Yesterday, President Obama delivered his proposed budget for FY13 to Congress. It proposes deep cuts to the Internet Crimes Against Children program. According to the U.S. Justice Department, the program is locating and rescuing over 2,000 child victims a year and arresting over 5,000 criminals for sexual exploitation annually. PROTECT estimates its real impact is protecting over 30,000 children a year. Congress has the last word on the budget. We're gearing up now...

President Obama's FY13 Budget, page 809.
Released Monday, February 13, 2012.
Proposed deep cuts to the ICAC Task Force program, with funding of just $22 million. The PROTECT Our Children Act, sponsored by Vice President Joe Biden and 60 other senators--as well as a bipartisan group in the House led by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) and Joe Barton (R)--authorized $60 million.
If passed by Congress, this budget would result in steep decreases in arrests for child sexual exploitation, and reverse the current upward climb of child victims being rescued by U.S. law enforcement.
