I have the following users who have expressed interest in participating in the panel:

If anyone on this list can not or does not want to participate please let me know and I can take you off the list. At this point we have 9 people and I think that is sufficient for a panel to discuss the issues. If you still wish to express support for the group let us know and we will add your name. All the names will be forwarded to Skinner when we propose the group to show that we have enough members interested. It would be nice to have at least 20-25 names.
Some of the things we need to get done (in no particular order):
Develop a mission statement
Take a look at the UN Charter (which can be found here)
Discuss human rights statutes
Decide what room rules we will use
Decide which areas will be out of bounds because they may overlap with that of another group
Appoint a host or hosts (even though I am starting this I'm bowing out for that job, sorry)
If there is anything we need to add to the list, please let me know. This will be an ongoing discussion until we can agree on the components needed and then send our proposal to Skinner for approval.
Thank you all for volunteering to help.
A list of those who pledge support for the group by who are not on the panel:

(17,997 posts)Depending on what is required to be a host or moderator or whatever it's called, I may be interested. That's us of course if you all would want or need the help.

(22,000 posts)I'm just sending out messages to the others that expressed interest.
Can you please tell me where I watch for further discussion? Just in this group?
Don't want to volunteer then miss things.

(22,000 posts)It was recommended to me that we take a look at some of the other groups mission statements to get an idea how we could put ours together. I have gone through and just randomly picked out some. If you know of some better ones, please reply to this post and copy paste them with a link.
Economic Activism and Progressive Living
Statement of Purpose
End corporate control of our government and media though targeted product and service boycotts and the redirection of our personal finances.
Woman's Rights & Issues
Statement of Purpose
This group is a place for members to discuss all issues affecting women in the U.S. and globally. Our goal is to keep this forum friendly, polite and respectful. If you agree with the necessity of women's rights advocacy and believe in furthering the legal & cultural rights of women then this is the place for you.

(82,333 posts)Often human rights are aspirations rather than legally enforceable rights.

(22,000 posts)I would like to get a group mission statement going pretty quickly.
Also to add what you are talking about we could look at different types of human rights declarations that have been drafted. For instance there is one in the European Union that I studied when I took at class on EU law on Coursera (I highly recommend it for anyone who is interested. I believe they have classes on human rights from time to time. I'd take it but being a graduate student and studying Korea as well as working full-time doesn't leave me much free time at all).

(22,000 posts)I really dropped the ball on this one. It's been 7 months and I've done nothing. I was in the mist of finishing my dissertation at the time this discussion took place.
I am still very interested in doing this.
