DU is a pretty good place to spread the word about local issues and candidates
I've been trying to post information when I can about local issues and candidates on the subgroup for our area. When I go out knocking on doors for a candidate, on a good afternoon I talk to maybe a dozen people, of which maybe 6-8 are receptive (and who knows what percentage of those remember anything I said afterwards). On DU I can make a post about a candidate, and it will often get 100+ views. And being on DU, I can assume that the people reading it are going to be generally more receptive than the average person I talk to when I knock on doors.
Which isn't to say that knocking on doors isn't important; besides reaching people, you also increase a candidates visibility and possibly get people to put up signs (I never succeeded with this, but people I know have). But it seems like online forums can also be a very good way to spread the word.
What to others think? Has anyone else been using DU as a way to spread information about local races and issues? Are there any other good sites to do this?
