Municipal clerk's office gears up for local election October 1

Municipal clerk Sara Peterson and deputy clerk Jess Earnshaw run through the details of this year’s municipal election, which will he held Tuesday, October 1. Voters will choose one mayor, two assembly members, and two school board members (although only one candidate has filed for school board). Find more information about the candidates at the KCAW Election Center.

There are also two “housekeeping” ballot measures, to amend the Sitka Charter to delete the reference to the accounting system for Sitka Community Hospital (which no longer exists), and to bring Sitka’s recall process into compliance with state statute.

Early voting is open 8:30-4:30 weekdays, and Saturday 9 a.m. – noon, through September 30 at Harrigan Centennial Hall.
