We're not talking major US city here (no offense, Anchorage), so why is there such a big money push for a mayoral race? Is the city that important to AK politics in general?

They've been running negative ads against Ethan Berkowitz, trying to tie him to Obama. It's really ridiculous. We all hate Art Hackney, but at least he's local.
