Related: About this forumSay hello to our new MIR Team!
This discussion thread was locked by EarlG (a host of the Announcements group).
The job of the Malicious Intruder Removal Team is to ban people who join DU with the intent to disrupt. MIR Team members are volunteers, and they serve for a three-month term. The members serving on the current team were selected on a first-come-first-served basis. (Note that we do not select anyone whose Transparency page is displayed.)
If you are a member of the MIR Team, you should have access to the access-restricted Malicious Intruder Removal Forum. It should appear as a red folder on your Forums & Groups page, and in the left column of any page (if you view DU in "Standard" mode).
Thank you to everyone who volunteered!

(20,043 posts)and good luck. Welcome back to the returning members. Happy hunting.
And to the retiring/returning members, it was really a great experience serving with all of you! I would do it again in a heartbeat. See ya in the halls of DU.
To Skinner/Elad/EarlG thanks for the wonderful opportunity! I'll be signing up again.

(14,819 posts)You were invaluable teaching us newbies a few short months ago, and it's been a pleasure learning from you and serving alongside you.
Welcome to the new folk - good to see you on board.

(31,182 posts)If I understand correctly, the "alert" link is not used. How do I MIR-alert?
Ruby the Liberal
(26,312 posts)there is an option to check off "TOS alert" when you select the Community Standards option.
Admin gets the jury results on all TOS alerts and MIRT, when the post is hidden by the jury.

(68,461 posts)To all the other retirees . . . . Wow! Just like that the red folder is gone. I can see all my old posts in MIRT on my My Posts list but can't access them any more.
Odd feeling . . . . .

(60,011 posts)MIRT Forum is the most supportive place I have found on DU.
I really enjoyed being a member and will probably volunteer again at a later date.
go get those spammers!!!!

(146,218 posts)First, and most importantly, the camaraderie and respect that, for the most part, were the hallmarks of the mod forum and the MIRT team. It is replicated in few other places on the site and has been an incredibly valuable and rewarding experience.
Second, troll hunting. Having been one of the resident experts on a couple of repeating trolls, it is going to be an interesting experience to not be able to nuke them.
What I won't miss from MIRT is the pm's. Way too many and, with my current horrendous internet question, taking up way too much of my time deleting. I hope you find a way to fix that soon.
It has been my distinct pleasure to work with you, Skinner, elad and to have hopefully assisted you in achieving your goals of electing democrats. It has been very meaningful to me.

(11,070 posts)I think you're going to find this a most rewarding experience.

(24,738 posts)You'll be enlightened by the amount of work that goes into monitoring & will gain a lot of perspective on newbie trolls.
Real life prevents me from continuing on at this time, but I will definitely sign up again when the time is right.

(55,740 posts)are we on THROUGH October? I can stay (not that I do much) but for some reason I thought it was a 90 day thing and was wondering why there hadn't been a new call for volunteers.
William769
(55,828 posts)The term expires on or about October 6th. But since it was your first term, you are allowed to serve two terms in a row if you so desire unless things have changed.
