Related: About this forumSay hello to our new MIR Team!
This discussion thread was locked by EarlG (a host of the Announcements group).
The job of the Malicious Intruder Removal Team is to ban people who join DU with the intent to disrupt. MIR Team members are volunteers, and they serve for a three-month term. The members serving on the current team were selected on a first-come-first-served basis. (Note that we do not select anyone whose Transparency page is displayed.)
If you are a member of the MIR Team, you should have access to the access-restricted Malicious Intruder Removal Forum. It should appear as a red folder on your Forums & Groups page, and in the left column of any page (if you view DU in "Standard" mode).
Thank you to everyone who volunteered!

And your beautiful remark just made this old lady tear up.
Maybe I'll do another term one of these days...

(8,492 posts)...I've always imagined MIRT to be a bunch of cranky old farts who hate people.
Not one of the sweetest DUers ever.

(152,069 posts)Nobody on MIRT hates people......we just hate malicious intruders!
Aw, thanks, sweetie......

(35,515 posts)Without MIRT, those same two longer tirades would wind up more frequently in the DUmail of relatively randomly selected members.
Wanna join MIRT? I hear there will be a MIRT turnover soon!

(32,835 posts)Serving on MIRT will be the most rewarding experience you will have on DU because the emphasis is on the T - Team work.
You will come to appreciate the people you work with that you may have never even noticed before. Also you will learn to respect others that you might, in the beginning, think you won't agree with or perhaps don't even care for. I know that I will never again see a MIR team member out on greater DU without thinking about the experience and smiling a little. The truth is that the team members cease being posters and they become people.
Take Ruby's advice and keep up with your purging or you will be overwhelmed. I look forward to getting more sleep because going forward if I wake up in the middle of the night I will no longer feel compelled to check DU to see if we have had an intruder invasion.
Be kind to each other.

(26,582 posts)My advice to the new members...keep on top of your DU mail, if you don't delete at regular intervals it'll really pile up.
I hope to serve again in the future when my real life isn't so busy. It's a great experience.

(41,303 posts)I have enjoyed MIRT and working on a great team, and have learned a lot about DU and about the various species of trolls! All the best to all current MIRT-ers in keeping the trolls from the door, especially during election week!

(41,303 posts)While I was on MIRT, my Inbox sometimes went 'KABOOM!' for reasons far less important than a major election.

(10,164 posts)Much appreciated. I was on a jury last night, and was a bit at a loss as to what to do about a horrible, possibly illegal post (containing at least a strong insinuation of a death threat), other than vote to hide it.
