RNC Convention 'Failure' As Milwaukee Venues Likely To Sit Empty

The Republican National Committee's (RNC) upcoming convention is set to be a "failure" for local businesses in the area, according to a theater group owner. The Republican National Convention is set to take place in Milwaukee from July 15 to 18 and it is where former President Donald Trump is expected to be formally chosen as the party's nominee for the 2024 election.
When the convention was announced, it raised expectations that it will benefit the local economy. In an April 2024 blog post, Alison Prange, the chief operating officer for the Milwaukee-based RNC Host Committee, said, "The 2024 RNC is expected to deliver a direct and indirect economic impact of around $200 million this year," adding that "additional economic impact is expected for years to come."
Around 50,000 delegates are expected to gather in the area around the Fiserv Forum, where the event will be held, during the convention. However, a business owner raised concerns that there has been a lack of event bookings in the area during the period.
Speaking to online publication The Recombobulation Area toward the end of June, Gary Witt, president and CEO of the Pabst Theatre Group, which runs venues in the area, said four of its sites, the Pabst Theater, Riverside Theater, the Vivarium and the Fitzgerald will likely sit empty during the convention. He said the RNC planning was "underwhelming" and a "failure."

(17,030 posts)If they bring in 10,000 it will be a lot. They will get delegates and a few party officials from each state.
They have gutted the state rnc committees. They have demoralized the remainder. They have trash talked the city and made it sound like it will be a war zone.
Nobody will want their families along.
Vendors will have no reason to be there. Same for consultants. Who is buying? The only currency is loyalty. Talent and skill mean nothing.
And contributors? They are tapped out. Why throw a gala when they are already on the hook for millions.
Plus who at the rnc has been organizing any of that? They probably haven't even thought about an open bar.

(27,362 posts)The article's claim - that all 50K will be delegates - is false.
But, it's Newsweek, so that's expected. 50K is total - delegates, media, law enforcement, staff, visitors, etc.

(17,770 posts)Ramirez tells Rolling Stone that the Mothership, which he often refers to as the mommy in his posts, has a chosen voice. That voice made waves on social media Wednesday when he announced that he would be closing down the bar in mid-July when the Republican National Committee (RNC) is scheduled to hold its 2024 convention in the heart of Milwaukee.
The convention is expected to bring 50,000 people to the city. Special ordinances have been approved allowing bars to stay open late, and as with past conventions many liquor companies, brands, and political groups are pitching local watering holes on commemorative merchandise and event partnerships. Skipping the fray means potentially forgoing a lot of money.

(7,341 posts)about Milwaukee.
He was a guest on the (at the time) very popular TV show "Night Court". He was talking with character Bull Shannon (played by actor Richard Moll).
He said something to the effect of "Where I come from it is like being in the middle of Milwaukee. You could get in a cab and go two hundred miles, and you'll still be in the middle of Milwaukee. You could get in a plane and go two thousand miles and you'd still be in the middle of Milwaukee."
At which point, Bull's head was about to explode thinking about that imagery, and he yelled "STOP!"
I find it quite (ahem) "amusing" that the RNC, with their presumptive nominee, Dumpy the Clown, would be so 'Russia-fied' as to put their convention in this city, of all years. I'm sure Milwaukee is a fine city. However, it is being invaded by the Red Army in a few months. Russia? RNC? Umm.... yes.
The name of the episode was called "World War III" and aired in 1985.

[about Yakov's brother, who doesn't want to go back to the Soviet Union]
Baliff Nostradamus 'Bull' Shannon: Is it really that bad over there?
Yakov Korolenko: You ever been to Milwaukee?
Baliff Nostradamus 'Bull' Shannon: Yeah.
Yakov Korolenko: Close your eyes.
Baliff Nostradamus 'Bull' Shannon: Why?
Yakov Korolenko: Please?
[Bull does]
Yakov Korolenko: When you open your eyes, you're going to be in the middle of Milwaukee. No matter where you go, no matter how far you run, you're still going to be in the middle of Milwaukee. You can get in a cab, and drive two hundred miles in any direction, and you're still going to be in the middle of Milwaukee. You can get in an airplane, and fly two thousand miles, and you're still...
Baliff Nostradamus 'Bull' Shannon: [clutching his head] NO! STOP, STOP IT!
[Bull rushes away]
Yakov Korolenko: [to his brother] Works every time.
