3 states file emergency Supreme Court petition to halt Biden's student loan repayment program

Source: The Hill

A trio of GOP-run states filed an emergency petition on Monday with the Supreme Court to halt President Biden’s Saving on Valuable Education (SAVE) income-driven student loan repayment program. South Carolina, Texas and Alaska petitioned the court to halt the plan after the 10th Circuit allowed the administration to start a significant portion of it.

The SAVE plan was set to slash monthly student loan payments from 10 percent of discretionary income to 5 percent this month. It would also begin offering student loan forgiveness to certain groups of borrowers.

The 10th Circuit halted the loan forgiveness but said the lower monthly payments could proceed, leaving the states to appeal to the Supreme Court, which last year struck down Biden’s previous attempt at universal debt relief.

By default, Monday’s motion was sent to Justice Neil Gorsuch, who handles emergency appeals arising from the 10th Circuit. But Gorsuch could refer the matter to his colleagues for a vote. And even though the Supreme Court is on its summer recess, the justices still act on emergency applications.

How is the save program in any way an emergency risk to the states?

What possible rationale is there? Somebody pays less and lowers their crushing debt burden?

Look, I'm 66, my wife and i have no personal college debt, and neither do my 3 adult children.

I have ZERO issue with college debt relief for those who need it.

If I have no issue, as someone who paid large sums for colleges/universities, why should states?

These people are evil. They have serious moral issues. They are beyond sick in the head.

Greed is the mindset that my taxes are going to your student loan payments, despite the fact that, even adjusted for inflation, the costs of education have skyrocketed. They have skyrocketed because these same people don't want to pay for an educated workforce either, despite the fact that if they are investors or companies they benefit directly and indirectly from that same educated workforce.

Pride comes in because the Magats do not want the Democrats to have any successful initiatives, because it makes the Republican mode of shrinking government in a bathtub mindset look as stupid as it is, and of course, benefits others that are less important than these Magats.

Cruelty comes from the delight in owning the libs, because, the libs are of course evil commie scum.

Stupidity should be obvious.

These GOP AGs are full of shit, and they know it.

But for most people, myself included, can’t pay for college without loans. So now, they hit you with, “Can’t afford your loans? You shouldn’t have borrowed the money.” Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

So they’re basically saying, “I got mine. Now fuck off.”

Fuck these people. Fuck them with a rusty, wire brush…and the horses they rode in on. Duplicitous, two faced fucks. I hate ‘em all.

some states had standing was because their state owned payment processing agency would have taken a big hit if student loans were forgiven.
