Legendary rock and roll band The Zombies have canceled upcoming tour dates after founding member Rod Argent suffered a stroke.
Argent, the keyboardist and primary songwriter for the Time of the Season group, was hospitalized with a stroke after celebrating his 79th birthday in London with his wife of 52 years. He was released the next day, but doctors advised he will need several months of rest and recuperation, The Zombies management said.

(34,309 posts)I remember that split me from my mother and her OK but dated music. I still loved Bobby Vincent etc. but this group, and this song in particular, sent me off on an independent musical journey that blew up quickly. I hate to see all the wonderful musicians beginning to fade or just go. Heck, I hate to see all of US from those wonderful radio days go too!

(68,359 posts)Just 3 piece, so our version was very different.
As soon as we saw this song on the list of available songs we said "Yeah, this one."

(17,514 posts)Shame about Rob Argent. I had a stroke, it takes some time to recover. Sounds like his was fairly mild, though, if they let him out the next day. Insofar as there are any "mild" strokes.

(13,642 posts)it's called a TIA, or a Transient Ischemic Attack, or in layman's terms, a mini stroke, which is the body's way of saying, you're headed for a flown blown stroke.

When my mother was in the hospital post-stroke, each nurse coming on to a shift would ask Mom a series of questions to check cognition. One morning a nurse went through her queries and asked "can you tell me who the president is." My mother's reply was "donald Fucking trump." The nurse looked at me laughing with mouth agape and asked "did she say what I think she said." I smiled and shrugged.
I wonder when they check on Rod Argent if they ask "what's your name, who's your daddy."

(93,494 posts)When my dad had heart valve surgery during the Gerald Ford admin, that turned out to last 12 hours instead of 3, nurses also checked his cognition fairly often. He kept flunking the president test (Lincoln ) until someone figured out Lincoln and Ford were both car-models, so yes, he was a bit confused about that in the moment, but it was not permanent.

(2,129 posts)The stroke came in May of 2019 during treatment for pancreatic cancer so the outlook already wasn't great. She passed the following July (which reminds me the anniversary is coming up).
Your dad wasn't far off since Lincoln is a division of Ford. Or maybe it was just wishful thinking on his part.

Actors and musicians have been fading out for a long time.
I hope Argent is OK, that this wasn't "the big one" and that he's on the mend soon.

(2,406 posts)I was always a "Prog-Rocker" growing up as my father was a part time jazz drummer and had jazz records, especially Krupa, playing all the time and my mother was more into the contemporary rock of the mid to late 60's along with a good dose of San Fran/Laurel Canyon crowd (since that's where we lived at the time lol). Prog/Fusion Rock was a natural combination that clicked with my synapses enjoined from heavy LOUD (they still like their music LOUD lol) exposure to those styles of music.
Argent was really great live and Rod Argent, even some with The Zombies, is one of the godfathers of prog rock. For gods sake he turned down playing with Yes lol. Glad he's good and even though "retired", I'm sure those fingers will be slapping some keys until his time.
