If the NYP is accurate on name, age, and location, the shooter appears to be a registered Republican

The first thing I posted yesterday was "I hope this guy isn't from Pittsburgh." Bethel Park is a suburb in Pittsburgh's South Hills. Butler PA is only about a half-hour drive north of Pittsburgh.

The other comment I posted was "I hope it's not a Democrat who shot him." At least that turned out OK.

that he donated $15 to ActBlue a few years ago (when he was 17), so the rightwingers are spinning conspiracies about him being "a secret commie" that registered as a Republican to vote in the PA closed primaries.

I have a feeling a LOT of information will be coming out quickly in the next few days, and the story will change rapidly.

Trump poses as a "tough guy".

Repubs push the image of Democrats as "weak".

Many 20 year olds haven't discovered that true toughness means standing up for the most vulnerable, and thinking for yourself.

If someone is savvy enough to get a vantage point outside of the security zone, he likely had more planning than a spontaneous impulse to act.

Plus he was already pretty accurate meaning he had some training. So why make such an obvious mistake?

I wouldn’t cut wood with a saw meant for metal, but it would still work.

Sun Jul 14, 2024, 11:08 AM

1) The shooter probably practiced a bit, and reasonably knew enough to hit targets.

2) I have no idea how many rounds the shooter had in his magazine, but let's assume it was 20-30. He probably thought that even if he misses with the first shot, with 10, 20, or 30 shots he would hit his target. He likely had no idea that he would be neutralized in a matter of seconds.

3) The shooter was 20, so maybe he had no idea about sniper rifles and thought AR-15's were better because they look scary.

If you don't have the training, a sniper rifle doesn't give you an advantage compared to using a common hunting rifle or AR-15 style rifle

Harder to come by.

A hunting rifle with a scope could be in just about anyone’s collection. It appears that the AR15 was his father’s weapon. It’s probably just that simple.

Using decent ammo and a quality scope, even a cheap AR should hit a 4"x4" target at 200 yd repeatedly.

The problem is that people use cheap military grade ammo and non-magnified red dot optics unsuited for distance shooting, and don't practice beyond 100 yd to get an idea of their trajectory.

They thought it was funny to mock the attempt on Paul Pelosi's life?

You reap what you sow, motherfuckers.

They have spent YEARS loosening gun restrictions and stoking violence. This can't have surprised anyone who has a brain.

I fear it's going to be a long, bloody summer. If any of you have Democratic bumperstickers or yard signs, now is a good time to take them down. We're targets. I am glad I bought a new car a couple of years ago and haven't put one sticker on it because it was new. My old car was was plastered with political stickers. That would have made me a clear target.
