House launches "full investigation" into Trump rally shooting

Source: Axios

Updated 8 hours ago

House Republican leaders said Saturday they will hold a hearing with the U.S. Secret Service and other federal law enforcement officials after former President Trump was shot in the ear at a rally in Pennsylvania.

Why it matters: The Secret Service said the shooter and one rally attendee are dead, with two more spectators critically injured, Axios' Sophia Cai and Erin Doherty reported.

  • "US Secret Service quickly responded with protective measures and the former president is safe and being evaluated," the agency said in a statement shortly after the shooting.

  • Driving the news: "There are many questions and Americans demand answers," Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), chair of the Oversight Committee, said in a statement.

  • "I have already contacted the Secret Service for a briefing and am also calling on Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to appear for a hearing. The Oversight Committee will send a formal invitation soon," he said.
  • House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said in a post on X that the House will "conduct a full investigation" into the shooting.

  • Zoom in: Comer sent Cheatle a letter requesting she appear at a hearing on July 22.

Wonder if they will allow firearms into their convention? Or are they hypocrites?

It's all a game for Republicans until they are the victims (see Paul Pelosi, among others).

The law was written to expire after 10 years. Neither party made an attempt to renew it. Democrats had suffered losses in the House because of the ban and they were not interested in repeating those,

I live in Pennsylvania, in Allegheny County. We're one of the few counties in the state where the deer hunters are outnumbered by Democratic voters. But it doesn't matter because each district gets its own representative to the state legislature, and they all vote for open carry laws and the like.

pass laws without a majority in favor (sometimes even Republicans think MAGA proposals are bullshit). Congressional committees are fully controlled by Republicans. But, like the many bogus "investigations" into Hillary, Hunter Biden's laptop, and the attempt to impeach Biden, they lead nowhere without actual evidence.
