Secret Service director says agency will participate in assassination attempt investigation amid questions

Source: CNN Politics

CNN — In her first public statement since the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle on Monday said the agency will “participate fully” in an independent review ordered by President Joe Biden and also said the agency will work with Congress on “any oversight action.”

Cheatle, who was appointed by Biden in 2022, expressed confidence in the agency’s security plan for this week’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee and said changes have been made to Trump’s security detail since Saturday.

“The Secret Service is tasked with the tremendous responsibility of protecting the current and former leaders of our democracy,” Cheatle said. “It is a responsibility that I take incredibly seriously, and I am committed to fulfilling that mission.”

Questions have swirled about the agency’s preparations in the aftermath of Saturday’s shooting, which wounded the former president, killed an attendee and left two people critically injured. The shooter, identified by authorities as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, also was killed by Secret Service agents at the scene.

You know, covering the President and First Lady instead of his stupid ass.

I think this just went down too fast. The guy was about 130 yards away and I doubt they had much warning, people who saw the kid go up the ladder alerted the cops who alerted the SS and that took precious time. Still, the kid got very few shots off before the snipers killed him.

All of this is a smokescreen to protect that big, squalling baby from being told it was just a nick, other people weren't that lucky and he needs to STFU before people start to notice just who the shooter was---an extremist far right gun nut with an AR-15. One of his people, not ours,.

Democrats have been trying to get those fucking guns off the street for decades. TFG need to know he was shot because Republicans allowed that kid to buy that killing machine. He won't listen, of course, but others might.

I'm not confident of their motives in being part of an investigation, when they have so many close ties to Donald Trump.

They will go through all this hand-wringing, dissecting and finger pointing because a group of extremely well-trained security professionals could not stop 1 stationary, perhaps partially obscured person from shooting 1 other person.

AND YET, they will toss a gun to an untrained educator and demand the she/he protect the lives of 20-40 kids in a classroom in a school where 1 or more heavily armed lunatics are roaming the halls, shooting anything they want.

And then blame the educator if they fail to save the day.

Wonder Why
