After Trump shooting, his supporters still fiercely oppose gun reforms

MILWAUKEE, July 16 (Reuters) - Their presidential candidate had just narrowly escaped an assassination attempt, a bullet grazing his ear on Saturday from an AR-15-style semiautomatic weapon - a rifle frequently used by mass shooters in the United States.

Yet in interviews with 12 Donald Trump delegates at his Republican Party nominating convention in Milwaukee, none advocated for limits or bans on assault rifles, raising the legal age to buy a gun, or even more robust background checks. The delegates were dead set against any type of reform to America's gun laws.

Most viewed even mild measures, such as expanded background checks, or raising the legal age to buy an assault weapon to 21, as infringements on the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment, which grants citizens the right to own guns.

Instead, the delegates said any gun-related reforms should focus on funding better mental health support for troubled citizens, a standard Republican position. They blamed gun crime and gun massacres - including the assassination attempt on Trump - largely on mental illness and weapons falling into the wrong hands.

If they opposed any new gun laws after all the school kids were shot, why would they care about Trump's ear? sop Jul 2024 #6

which was ironically about gun control. The Earps wanted the cowboys to check their guns coming into town.
So now the Reich wingers are the Clanton gang.

Blame those crazy people, not the weapons of war. This gives militarized armed authority the excuse to request more tanks, armor, and machine guns for the shootouts - which materiel will not be used on gun-humpers, but on peaceful citizens. Like in Ferguson or Kenosha or DC. Let the armed (white) murderer walk to safety through police lines.

So what's the big deal about Trump then? People are dying all the times, mass shootings in schools, churches, sporting events, music venues, etc. If dead six year-olds and 500 people being shot at once with a de facto automatic weapon are just another day in America, why is Trump important enough to get upset about?
