Fox News invites Harris, Trump to Sept. 17 debate in Pennsylvania

Source: Politico

07/24/2024 03:30 PM EDT

Fox News has invited newly minted presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump to a Sept. 17 debate.

The network sent out invitations to both campaigns on Wednesday to participate in the debate. It is tentatively scheduled to take place just a week after a proposed debate on Sept. 10 from ABC News, which both President Joe Biden and Trump committed to participating in before the incumbent bowed out of the race. Fox News is proposing to hold the debate in Pennsylvania, but left the door open to discussions with each campaign about the date, format, location, and whether or not there is an audience.

The invitation comes after Trump pushed for the conservative network to host a debate during a conference call with reporters on Tuesday afternoon, though he committed to debating Harris regardless of the host network. The Harris and Trump campaigns did not immediately respond to requests for comment about the invitation.

The letters sent to the Harris and Trump campaigns were penned by Fox News Media President Jay Wallace and Vice President of Politics Jessica Loker. The network described its invitation as an amendment of its proposal for a debate during the 2024 campaign and suggested that hosts Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum would be the “best choices” to moderate.

In the shuffling madness
Of the locomotive breath
Runs the all-time loser
Headlong to his death
Oh, he feels the piston scraping
Steam breaking on his brow
Old Charlie stole the handle
And the train it won't stop
Oh no way to slow down
He sees his children jumping off
At the stations one by one
His woman and his best friend
In bed and having fun
Oh, he's crawling down the corridor
On his hands and knees
Old Charlie stole the handle
And the train it won't stop going
No way to slow down
Hey
He hears the silence howling
Catches angels as they fall
And the all-time winner
Has got him by the balls
Oh, he picks up Gideons bible
Open at page one
I think God he stole the handle
And the train it won't stop going
No way to slow down
No way to slow down
No way to slow down

Our candidate should neither participate nor show support in any way for Fox news. They've brought only lies and hate since their inception. Why participate at all if they are involved?

Seriously, why give them the time of day? I'm pretty sure it would be an easy case to make that they are criminally involved in a conspiracy to undermine the legitimacy of the US government. We need to get this "fomenting insurrection" thing ironed out soon or we'll be haunted by it for decades. People are beginning to actually swallow the idea that Jan 6 was a legitimate function of governance. If Trump wins don't be surprised if it's declared a new national holiday.

is the case many discuss. It was a defamation case over something Tucker said on his show. Fox asserted that "Mr. Carlson cannot be understood to have been stating facts" - which I think is what folks interpreted as Fox admitting that not everything on its shows is factual, as one would expect on a "news" network.

Maybe there are other cases out there, but this one was discussed a lot and I think that's where the assertion comes from.

I am going to make a very unpopular statement: ideas, policies, data, facts…none of it matters to republicans. I have listened to groups of republicans talk and what they value are one line zingers, insults, and pettiness. They thrive on blood. They absolutely do not care if you are competent or not. They do not care about decorum nor do they care about the law.

The old days where we can debate ideas are over. There is no debate when the other side is rabid. You can’t debate rabid.

Kamala Harris' mike much much softer than Trump's.

Cameras on Trump when Harris is speaking

All sorts of shenanigans.

... then, FOX can label their podiums "White" and "Colored" - just so they know where they stand with FOX "News"

They have only one agenda: to help Donald Trump. It will be nothing but "gotcha" questions for Harris and softball questions for Trump.

He doesn't debate. Why should she waste her time?

She's be better off at a campaign stop. Don't they have one on ABC in September? He'll go up there and do his schitck, act like an aged gorilla and we waste 90 minutes. No one said at the first debate"you didn't answer the question". No one will with one at Fox. Debates are really a waste of time.

He lies, doesn't accept accountability. And yet if she refuses he'll call her a chicken, but hey why should she waste her time with this POS.

In this modern age, with television, social media, vast Internet sites, what's the point? If people aren't paying attention, letting Trump yell at her/over her on FOX isn't going to help. Our media is so fucking against us, going into the enemy camp is a losing idea. Our "liberal" media, like MSNBC can't be trusted, much less FOX.

Get stuff out on Tik Tok, that's how you'll win over the young people. Go where they are. It's not at home watching network TV, or even cable. They stream stuff on their phones, for gods' sakes.

Lost the right to any debate when it defamed election workers and civil servants in the last election. Lies need consequences not rewards.

They will try to twist and distort her every answer. Their only fans are racists, and misogynists(which include women who hate themselves). Nothing to be gained by it as nobody who watches that shit has a brain left to be saved.

CSPAN has always had their "Road to the White House" series and I think they probably deferred to The Commission on Presidential Debates, which has been sponsoring and setting up the venues for these debates for the past 36 years.

TCPD had this year's debates already pre-planned and scheduled, and that whole thing was completely rejected by the candidates, as some news orgs jumped in, and hijacked the process.

* But at this point, IMHO, the whole idea of a "debate" is now meaningless because they were an artifact of a time before any type of electronic broadcast (radio, film, television, internet) was available and you either had to go to witness one "in person" or read about it in a newspaper or magazine.

Nowadays, we have 24/7 coverage of the candidates and their positions, so it's not like there will be anything "new" to be gained. That leaves these events as nothing more than a "talent show" that elevates "style" over any type of "substance", because even "real-time fact-checking" is not enough once the lies are out there.
